Hello, I used Docsnydor for the tuning.

Unfortunately, it (1Z) is quite 'unstable' at idle icon_rolleyes.gif.
Unfortunately, your description hasn't made things any clearer for me, as I don't know how and where I should install the diodes – before or after the resistor. icon_redface.gif And what does 'antiparallel' mean? Does that mean in series?

Okay, thank you in advance for the instructions, especially for those of us who aren't very tech-savvy.

ULF:
'Between cable 2 and cable 3, 'parallel to the pump' is correct.'

By the way, there's also the option of using two antiparallel diodes (e.g., 1N4148) in series with the (smaller) resistor, and then connecting the whole thing between pin 2 and 3.
This results in fewer/no idling problems and, based on experience, provides more power at higher RPMs, which chip tuners believe TDIs handle better than an insane torque peak around 2000 rpm.

So,
Okay, here's the translation:

'Regarding the diodes: they are smaller than the resistors and don't have the colored bands. They are housed in a round glass casing, usually red, and have a black ring on one side (the negative terminal) (e.g., type 1N4148). That's a basic way to identify these components.'
Here's how antiparallel wiring works:
Place both diodes vertically next to each other on the table. Orient one diode with the ring facing upwards, and the other with the ring facing downwards. Now, solder the two top wires together, and also solder the two bottom wires together. A 'new component' has been created. Now, connect this component in series with the resistor. The polarity of the components no longer matters, as it doesn't matter with resistors anyway, and the two diodes are now connected in an antiparallel configuration.
Diodes are a type of electrical valve. Current can only flow in one direction through a diode. By connecting diodes in an antiparallel configuration, the current can now flow in both directions. Similar to how a pressure drop exists in a spring valve, there is a certain 'electrical pressure' (voltage) drop across the diodes. This effect is needed for the 20Ct tuning, so that the tuning only kicks in at higher engine speeds. Is everything alright?
For the resistor, I recommend using an adjustable resistor. These are sold under the names: trimmer, spindle trimmer, or potentiometer.

Regards,

Eike.

I'll get a few more diodes (thank you for the good explanation) and then I'll try it out.

Hello,

Today I tested the diodes (1N4148). I soldered them together as described above and then connected them in series between the switch and the potentiometer. However, I didn't notice any improvement (the 10-cent tuning without diodes worked).
Did I do something wrong?
What value should the potentiometer be set to in order to notice an improvement? I set it to approximately 880-900 ohms with the 10-cent piece.

Hi.

When using diodes, a lower value needs to be set, typically around 200-400 ohms.
