Do I have an exotic engine control unit icon_question.gif icon_question.gif?

My Passat, a 1.9 TDI with 90 horsepower and a 1Z engine, manufactured in August 1995, has the Bosch engine control unit with the part number 0281 001 411/412.

I was thinking about chip tuning, but I can't find any chips for this engine control unit. That's why I'm asking: is it a rare model, or perhaps was a different engine control unit installed at some point?

The funny thing is, it's only listed in the Bosch parts catalog for my Passat.

What kind of control units did they install?

Thank you and best regards.

Burli.

Where did you look? I can't imagine that there wouldn't be a part for this control unit. 0 281 001 412 --> 028 906 021 DD
--> Chip number 355 563/564. --> SW D84 --> from production number 3A-T-000001 to 3A-T-160000.

Hi Pyotr,

Is your rephrasing now from Bosch to VW, or how should I understand the part number you provided?

Thank you and best regards.

Burli.

Hi Burli,
'028 906 021 DD' is the VAG part number and should be printed on the control unit.
You will also receive this number as a 'startup message' when you connect a diagnostic tool (or VAG-COM).

D84 is the version of the base software that affects the identification fields.

0 281 001 412 is the internal Bosch part number for the control unit.
355 563 or 355 564 are the internal Bosch software versions.

Best regards, Rudi.

P.S.: Based on the year of manufacture, the Golf dataset with part number 028 906 021 AF should be a reasonably good match. Perhaps you can find a tuner who can adjust it to your liking.

Okay, so I once tested my Passat (with the original ECU 028 906 012 B) with ECUs 028 905 021 C and 028 906 021 FB. These ECUs are from the Golf and Vento. I didn't notice any difference! I'm currently still using the 028 906 021 FB. I've driven about 10,000 km with it so far without any problems. The only thing that needed to be adjusted on the ECUs was the connector. I had to grind off a few pins on it.
