Hello!

I'm having a problem with the dry test of Ulf's OBD adapter. Since I'm not an electronics expert and I couldn't find anything about it in the forum, I'm hoping for some help.

Do you need to restore the initial state described in the preparation instructions after each of the five tests, or can you keep the connections from the previous test?

I would find it easier if someone could explain which cables (pins) I need to connect to each of the five individual test points, and where I need to supply the 12V. - Is ground always the vehicle's ground?

Thank you very much.

Bernhard (gib8)

Hi Bernhard,

Sure, here's the translation:

"First of all:"
The tests are generally described as a sequence, meaning that the final state persists (except for any new connections).

Is mass always vehicle mass?

Yes (or, more accurately, minus a power source that provides power to the adapter on the car side).

I'll take another look at the description to see if I can find any ambiguities.

Hello!

I have now performed the dry test as described.
Tests 1 through 3 are functioning as described in the instructions.

in Test 4:
LED 3 is also lit, as described in Test 5. Pin 3 has already been connected to ground since Test 3. If Pin 3 is not connected to ground in Test 4, all LEDs (1-4) will light up.

In Test 5:
PIN 3 is already connected to ground since Test 3.
If PIN 3 is not connected to ground in Test 5, all LEDs (1-4) will light up.
If I then connect pin 3 to ground, LED 2 turns off, and then LED 1 and LED 3 light up.

The question is: Is it normal that in test 4 + 5, if pin 3 is not connected to ground, all LEDs (1-4) light up?

Sure, here's the translation:

"Thank you in advance."

Bernhard.

Then the reaction is normal.

Quote:
If PIN 3 is not connected to ground in Test 4, all LEDs (1-4) will light up.
This can happen when VR 2 is turned up too much, and it is not necessarily a fundamental malfunction.

Quote:
in Test 5:
PIN 3 is already connected to ground since Test 3!
That's right, the repetition is unnecessary.

Yes.
I will rephrase the tests a bit further to better avoid misunderstandings.

Hello!!

After a long and, at times, frustrating troubleshooting process, I found a bug.
found in my Adapter version 2.4.
After the issue was resolved, the adapter is working perfectly to my complete satisfaction.
For all of the tax devices that have been tested so far, the connection setup is working perfectly.
Even with the 1Z, and without having to change anything in the settings!

Thank you very much to the forum, and especially to Ulf for his prompt and competent assistance.

Bernhard.

Hi Bernhard,

What was the error?
Perhaps others can learn from this...

It was short-circuited by a solder bridge on the R-9 component. The dry test and the test with the software were successful, but when used in practice, the error message "The control unit is not responding" always appeared. Now, everything is working perfectly.

Hi Bernhard,

Then, just to be on the safe side, I would swap T2 and T3.
They could be damaged by the "practically unrestricted" current flowing through the K-line when it's activated, and eventually cause problems.

Hello!

Thank you for the good advice.
I will replace the transistors as a precaution.
So far, the adapter has been working perfectly!
