Hello everyone!

Continental has just released an interesting video online about the dangers, safety measures, and the latest developments in high-voltage systems for electric and hybrid powertrains.

Okay, I'd also be interested to see what happens if someone loses control and slides into a village stream with something like that in wintery road conditions.

It will likely be important to consider which energized parts the water comes into contact with first, and then where the current will flow. icon_wink.gif

Hi Rainer!

Without extensive knowledge, I would strongly assume that continuous insulation monitoring is in place within the system, or that it is shut down via a residual current device (RCD). In an emergency, it may also involve "disconnecting the battery terminals."

What would worry me more is the water in/of the lithium-based batteries, because it is known to burn very hot very quickly icon_rolleyes.gif.
This chain reaction will not be triggered by either a fuse (FI) or a mechanical device. Can a divorce be prevented?

Best regards from Munich!

The high-voltage batteries are galvanically isolated from the vehicle.
The system is designed in such a way that the batteries always maintain an optimal temperature of approximately 20 degrees Celsius.
In addition, the power supply is disconnected within microseconds in the event of minor short circuits.

A crash test of the VW up showed that the battery remained completely undamaged.

I have heard about the following procedures from a source within the emergency services:

Hybrid vehicles should only be accessed using a spreader tool to potentially pry open doors that may be jammed. According to current training and education materials, cutting techniques are generally not suitable for use on hybrid vehicles.

Firefighting on hybrid vehicles should explicitly only be done with foam, and ideally, this should only be used to gain time for rescuing people. Otherwise, it should be avoided as much as possible; therefore, one lets it burn out under observation.

The unanimous decision concerned the lack of labeling for hybrid vehicles due to the potential risk it poses to emergency services. The quality of the electronically accessible emergency maps is also unsatisfactory for many manufacturers.

Great, there's absolutely no way anything could go wrong in an accident!

Unfortunately, the parking situation is not ideal.

It's always great when there are volunteers who want to be beta testers.

Hi.

I find the Conti film... let's just say "strange."

This combination of slapstick and technical information is jarring.

Either I try to be funny, but then I'd have to cater to 5-10 year olds who probably don't even own a car, let alone an electric car (because they're new and expensive), or I ditch this Steve Urkel-esque silliness and these transitions with the wooden hammer that are supposed to be funny but just come across as stupid.

The only real piece of information I managed to retain:
- The cables are orange.
- Otherwise, nothing is properly labeled (which wasn't entirely unexpected).

Too bad...

m;

I'm going to pick up the e-up from the local dealer first.
"Do you already have that new e-up (or however you pronounce it) new_all_coholic.gif?"
Transparency, Teamwork
... there was another T.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.
