Hello everyone,

I installed an AFN engine with a "CAN"-compatible engine control unit (ECU) into my 2001 V6 TDI 3BG Passat.
The problem is the communication between the speedometer, the ABS system, and the engine.
I've connected the CAN lines from the control unit to the instrument cluster, and the tachometer is now working. Unfortunately, the ABS light is on because of a lack of communication.

MSG is already programmed for automatic transmissions, but this hasn't really achieved much besides causing another communication error between the MSG and the automatic transmission.
I read that you can code the gateway to 00000, but probably only if there are no devices with CAN bus functionality installed.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can solve the problem of the ABS light turning off?

MSG: 038 906 018 GA
Part number: 3B0 920 845 A
The braking system is Bosch's ESP 5.3, but I don't have the part number handy at the moment.

Best regards, Robert.

Hello,

You need CAN logs from the original engine to determine which CAN messages are now different or missing.
It has little to do with vehicle diagnostics. I recommend: http://www.canhack.de

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, but I no longer have the original engine. Is there no possibility that the signals are simply not checked and are hidden within the gateway?

Does Canhack work with the hex-can adapter?

Well, you should really think about things beforehand before just randomly putting parts together...
The gateway is likely not very involved in the communication between the motor and the ABS, as both are connected to the CAN bus.
You're not specifying exactly what the ABS is reporting as an error, so it's only possible to make guesses.

I only took over the project and am trying to finish it.

ABS error: 18256. Read error memory from MSG.
P1848 - 35-00-

Error in MSG: 18058 Data bus, drive.
P1650 - 35-00 - Missing message from the instrument cluster.

The problem is that the airbag light is on. I read somewhere that someone coded their gateway to 00000, which didn't fix the error, but it did turn off the ABS light. However, the gateway doesn't accept that coding. So, I'm looking for a solution.

Robert,
The AFN engine 3B0 had a speedometer with a part number that started like this: 3B0... Do you happen to know the full part number?
Did you manage to program the immobilizer? Where did you get the PIN from?

Yes, everything works with the 3-pin speedometer, including the tachometer, etc. The only thing that's still not working is the ABS light, which is still illuminated.
No, I can't tell you the original part number for that old speedometer; I no longer have it.

I don't think your setup is compatible. The AI isn't the problem. The MSG doesn't fit in this configuration. It only works with 919 tachometers. However, you can't install a 919 tachometer in a 3BG.

Okay, a possible solution would be to use a 3B ABS module that doesn't require a CAN bus, right?

Looks like several CAN messages are missing or are different.

Even though it might sound harsh, I think the simplest solution would be to use components that are compatible with each other. icon_idea.gif
