It might be due to the images in the posts. Not every phone and not every provider gateway or proxy can correctly render the pages.

First, you need a suitable browser. I use Blazer from Handspring (http://www.handspring.com/software/blazer_overview.jhtml). which runs on its own proxy service and is therefore capable of displaying graphics. It can manage cookies and execute simple JavaScripts. Furthermore, it can access the internet through an upstream proxy server (e.g., a corporate proxy). This makes sense if you are connected to the regular computer via cable and want to configure the basic settings.
Normally, communication with a mobile phone works via infrared. If the phone has a built-in modem (which all current phones should have), then there's no problem. The phone is simply accessed as a modem, and that's it. I use an old Siemens S25 for this.
Connect through the service provider you trust the least.

If you use a null modem adapter, you can connect the M100's hot-sync cable directly to a modem (the M100 has the RS232 drivers built in). It's quite something when the modem is three times the size of the device itself...

If you want to connect your Palm device to the network via a PC (for setup and testing), you need Mocha-PPP (www.mochasoft.dk). This program creates an interface between the COM port (and thus, the Palm) and the TCP stack. This effectively connects the Palm to the TCP/IP network, making it believe that it is directly connected to the internet.
