Dear community,
I would like to thank everyone in the forum. Thanks to the tips I received, I was able to get my in-laws' old Golf running smoothly again by simply disconnecting the faulty oxygen sensor. Tomorrow, I will replace it with a new one so that everything works properly for the next emissions test. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the post that gave me the crucial tip.
