What is the relationship between the following values? This refers to my Sharan 7N, 2.0 l CR.

Particulate filter: Calculated soot mass: 16.68 g.
Particulate filter: Soot mass measured -0.43 g.
Particulate filter: Oil ash volume 0.09 liters.

When is the filter full? As far as I know, a significant indicator of filter saturation is when the volume reaches 0.17 liters. How should the values for soot mass be interpreted, especially the negative value?
Viele Grüße
Andreas

Hello,

Only the oil ash is relevant for the expansion and cleaning of the DPF. It is not uncommon for there to be differences between the measured amount of soot and the calculated amount of soot; depending on the engine, regeneration starts at x% or xg soot loading.

A typical limit for oil ash volume in a 2-liter R4 CR engine is 175 ml, which is almost double what you are reading. However, the value can vary slightly from engine to engine.
Measured and calculated soot mass can differ. I once saw a difference of 18 grams, and shortly after regeneration, I even observed a negative value for the measured soot mass.

Hello,
bei meinem 3.0 tdi CCWA mit 215.000 km liegt auch vor, dass zwischen berechneter und gemessener Russmasse eine großer Unterschied vorliegt. For example:
Marzipan weight calculated: 25 grams.
Weight of marzipan: 4 grams.

Current oil ash volume: 0.29 liters.

The engine control unit seems to initiate the DPF regeneration process as soon as the calculated soot mass exceeds the threshold.

Is there a reason for the large difference between the calculated and measured Russian mass, such as a faulty sensor, or is this a typical and normal occurrence?

Best regards and have a nice weekend.
