There are still some minor technical differences in the engines of the 130 and 100 models.
The Polo "is allowed" to have 100 horsepower, even though there are Golf models with less power.

Olaf.

It is, however, the 1.4 with 90 horsepower in a new development stage icon_wink.gif.

Do you know the POLO GT with its 130 hp PD-TDI engine?

Manuel.

@Manuel
Take a look at the data; the posts are a little bit older... icon_wink.gif

Hi,

The 1.7 SDI is a very familiar model. icon_wink.gif
The origins clearly trace back to the 1.7D engine in the T3 from 1986.
The 1.7D engine (engine code KY) is based on the old 827 engine block and is essentially a 1.6TD (not a "D" because it uses the reinforced block/crankshaft of the 1.6TD and has piston bottom cooling) with the bore of the later 1.9D engine (engine code 1Y). The valve size is also the same as the 1.9D. Therefore, the 1.9D is essentially a 1.7D with a longer stroke. icon_cool.gif. As is well known, the 1.9TDI engines (1Z, AHU, AFN) are based on the engine block of the 1.9D or TD engines (1Y, AAZ).
So, the 1.7-liter diesel engine is not a step backward from the 1.9-liter engine, but rather its origin!
The 1.7-liter engine was never offered with a turbocharger, neither as a swirl chamber diesel nor as a TDI; therefore, the 1.7 TDI would have been a very late upgrade of a very old naturally aspirated diesel engine. icon_rolleyes.gif

End of the brief excursion into VW diesel history icon_wink.gif.

Regards,
Jens.

...and the 90 horsepower TDI engine in the A2 is definitely a 1.4-liter engine.

I think there was a report about it recently on the AMS website, regarding a new VTG loader with increased charging pressure, etc.

I don't believe in a 1.7L TDI engine, because what would be the point? It's the same weight as the 1.9L.

The 1.4 TDI engine isn't actually that bad. I recently had the chance to drive the new Polo with that engine. It has a lot of power and revs very smoothly, going well above 4000 rpm. The way it runs is very pleasant; my AJM engine feels like a tractor in comparison. The sound is a bit unusual, but I actually find it sporty; it really makes you want to drive fast.

It's undeniable that the A2 has a 1.4-liter engine. However, when this thread was started, Volkswagen definitely had a 1.7-liter TDI engine on the test bench, but it probably didn't go into production for the reasons mentioned.
To be honest, I have no idea what people are actually discussing here.
But let's talk about something else: Has anyone driven the 90 horsepower 1.4-liter engine yet? Ideally, someone who is familiar with the AMF (presumably a specific car model or engine type).

Regards,

Olaf.
