Good day everyone!

I've logged in with a current problem:

A4 2.5 TDI, year 1999, 108,000 km.

An meinem Fz wurde seit mind. einem Jahr nach einem ominösen Öl-Leck gesucht. Ka result!
Over time, my suspicion grew that the leak was coming from the oil filler neck, and I believed that there might be pressure building up in the crankcase.
The oil stains on the parking lot were getting bigger, and so was the workshop's need to explain themselves.

Since the day before yesterday, it's been emitting a large amount of blue smoke from the exhaust and also consuming a significant amount of oil.

The workshop has informed me that there is pressure in the crankcase, and when the engine is warm, it immediately forces the oil upwards. The diagnosis is that the engine is otherwise in good condition, so the recommended solution is either an engine replacement or engine overhaul.

Here are my questions:
Can the pressure in the crankcase also be caused by the turbocharger?
If I have to get the engine rebuilt, what approximate figure should I expect to pay?

It would be great if you could help me.
Thank you in advance.

Best, Ben.

Engine code of the car? The age of the car might suggest it's an AFB engine, which can have problems with the crankcase ventilation system. Others might have more information. You could also try using the search function, as there was a thread about a similar issue where the workshop also wanted to replace the engine.

Best regards, WarLord.

Well, thank you very much, that's actually a ray of hope on the horizon.
I can definitely follow up on that tomorrow.
I already arranged for the measurements to be taken today, let's see what happens.
I will report on how things progress.

So, thank you again for everything up to this point.

Best, Ben.
