Hello everyone,
I was just trying to check the EGR function on my vehicle. I hooked up a VAG-COM device and experimented with it a bit.
Okay, everything seems to be fine. Now, my question. What is that small black part attached to the EGR control unit? It looks like a small cylinder into which a black plastic piston is inserted. You can push this piston into the small cylinder and back out. The piston is connected to a kind of 'throttle valve' within the EGR control unit. A vacuum hose is also attached to the small cylinder (also made of plastic). Can someone explain what this is?
Which vacuum hose needs to be disconnected in order to simulate a malfunction of the EGR valve? In the picture in the technical article, this small cylinder is also shown at the top. The little black thing.

Hi Smith2,
There probably aren't many, actually, probably only one. What's his MKB?
If in doubt, simply continue following the vacuum hose; when you reach a small solenoid valve at the end, you've found the right one. The valves are usually attached to the mold.

I found the membrane valve. But take a look at the technical article. It shows a similar AGR valve there. In the bottom left corner, there's a black plastic part. There's also a hose attached to it. If you push the plunger in while the engine is running, it will stall. However, I can't possibly detach the hose from that thing; I would have to destroy the part (safety device) to do so.

Sounds like a stuck bypass valve... it's cutting off the air supply from the turbocharger and causing the engine to stall.

It's the shut-off valve. I glanced at it while the engine was stopping.
Thank you.
