Startup Problems: Common Issues & Solutions

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my Golf 3 TDI with the AFN engine!

When the car (the engine/the ESP) is cold, the car starts perfectly fine!
'As soon as the pump or engine is warm, it only starts after a long 10-second cranking period. So, it has significant starting problems! I don't know what's causing it. If I open the lines that go to the injectors at the bottom of the pump before starting, I see that there's no diesel in them, so the lines are empty, or is that normal?'

You might think that as soon as I press the starter, the pump has to do something for a few seconds before it finally starts! That's very annoying!

What could be the reason for that?
Has anyone else experienced this problem before?

Please search for terms like "warm start problem" and related keywords.
First, I would check the temperature sensor on the cylinder head; simply read the values and see if they seem reasonable.
Sometimes, there were also starter motors that rotated the warm engine too slowly, or batteries that weren't fully charged.

If nothing else works, you can also try increasing the starting amount by adapting the engine control unit (ECU).
