hello

I have a 1991 Polo hatchback (86C), with an AAU engine, 33 kW.
I haven't even been able to get information from VW about whether the control unit (030 906 026A or 0 261 200 253) has any diagnostic capabilities...
(Is this the Mono Motronic 35?)

I haven't been able to find it in the area around the steering wheel icon_sad.gif.
(I don't even know exactly what I'm looking for *embarrassed*).

'Where could a diagnostic connector be located? Or, is it possible to tap into the diagnostic outputs directly on the steering control unit? Specifically, for a Monomotronic system, which pins are relevant (pin 22 and 23)?'

2. What would be a suitable 'reading device' that is 'complete'? For the older control unit, VAG COM might be a bit 'oversized' icon_rolleyes.gif.

thank you icon_smile.gif

Hi,

"Mono-Motronic" is certainly a fitting description.

The workshop reads the part number as 1551, but there's no more diagnostic code displayed (this was common with the older Mono-Jetronic system). The connection for that is located above, behind a flap in the compartment under the steering wheel.

hello

Thank you for the quick reply icon_smile.gif.

Okay, let's start searching for the hatch.

Sorry, but I'm not an expert in this area... (from the VAG group).
what is 1551?
Can I simulate this in any way (using a PC, RS232, and an adapter cable/software)?

It seems that analyzing the K and L lines is possible with VAG COM, but for my application, it's simply too extensive and expensive.

I can imagine that the old lines designated with 'k' and 'l' operate using a relatively simple 'code.'

No, at AAU, the 1551 works with "fast data transfer," so it no longer uses the blink code. You'll definitely need to use VAG-Com, as that's part of the functionality of the 1551.

Here is an example of how to apply a 1551:http://www.haywood-sullivan.com/vanagon/TDI/tdi_diagnostics_en.pdf.

*head spinning*

I think I'll tackle that again calmly sometime this weekend.
