Hi!
I have a mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) from Pierburg that is unfortunately defective. Can I install a Bosch MAF sensor in my VW Vento (1Z)? The VW part number is the same.
'Thank you.'

Hi Ventoman,
As far as I know, a VW part number is a unique identifier for a VW component and is not reused.
It means that, in my opinion, you can safely install the LMM.
Best, Björn.

It depends on the design.
The Bosch mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors) that I'm familiar with have a different design and installation compared to the Pierburg sensor from the 1Z engine. I'm not entirely sure if there are other variations. However, I would be very cautious.

In my opinion, the internal structure of the mass airflow sensor (MAF) should not be different; only the shape of the air filter housing might vary. If the VW part number for the MAF is the same, then it should be the same component.

No problem if the vehicle identification number (VIN) is the same.
However, there are hot-wire mass airflow sensors and hot-film mass airflow sensors, so they are definitely different.
The external dimensions also vary in some cases.

hi again.
The part looks (as far as I can tell from the picture) like my current LMM.
Sure, here is the translation:
'Here is the following description:'
'Mass airflow sensor from BOSCH for VW and AUDI, Bosch part number 0 281 002 46; VW part number 074 906 461B.'
The VW part number matches the one on my mass airflow sensor, except for the 'B' at the end.
Can I buy it now with a clear conscience?
Thanks again for your answers.

I think so, because, as far as I know, the 'B' only indicates a change in the part number within the VW parts system, and not a change in the component itself.

Hi,
The index letter may potentially lead to significant changes, even incompatibility. Perhaps the index letter "B" simply indicates that the supplier has changed.
Okay, gib mir den deutschen Text.
The 13-pin electrical kit for the trailer hitch on the Golf III has the index "A". The wiring harness for the Golf IV has the same number but the index letter "B"! Since the rear light connectors on the G4 and the G3 are anything but the same, these electrical kits are not interchangeable.
So, please be careful when you see the same numbers with different index letters. In this specific case, however, I'm only assuming a change in supplier. Gruß Bertil

The LMM (mass airflow sensor) with the code 'B' was installed in the following Volkswagen vehicles:
Passat 01-02, engines: AVF, AWX.
Passat Synchro 01-02 AVF, AWX
Transporter 1999-2002: AHY, AXG.
The LMM without the 'B' was installed in quite a few models (I don't feel like listing them all right now, but the VW Vento 1Z was one of them).
I would try it if it fits. Surely nothing can go wrong, right?

Hi!
Okay, then I'll go ahead and buy it.
Hopefully, it will also fit with the air filter housing.
Thank you for the answers.
