Hardware for VAG-COM

Hello,
Does anyone know if the Elektor hardware is compatible with VAG-COM?
In the Elektor section, a microcontroller performs a 'conversion into...'
'Instead of ASCII data.' Other adapters (Ulf) don't need something like that. Maybe.
Has anyone here had experience with ELM and would like to share it?

The adapter only works with the included software or with a...
standard terminal program. Other software, such as VAG Com.
It's not working!
