Hi everyone.
I purchased a speedometer overlay from Sport Edition, along with matching needles, and installed it. So far, everything is great; the appearance is unbeatable (except that the indicator for the high beam had to be taken from the old overlay...). Now, to the point: Unfortunately, where the 120 km/h mark was on my old speedometer (at the top center, approximately), it's now the 100 mark. This means that if I'm driving at 120 km/h, only 100 km/h is displayed. Is it possible to adjust this via OBD? If so, what exactly needs to be adjusted and how? I think it might have something to do with the K-value, right? How do I explain this to my mechanic? The speedometer itself is functioning correctly, it's just that the scaling is different, so it's a problem I created myself...
This is about a Volkswagen Golf IV Variant Highline with an 85 kW TDI engine, registered in January 2001, but with a head airbag system and integrated child seats, and therefore most likely a 2001 model.
It would be great if someone could help me.

To achieve this, the characteristic curve in the speedometer must be changed from non-linear to linear. This cannot be done by a VW dealer icon_wink.gif.

Thank you...
But: Why linear and non-linear? And how can this be done? Or rather, WHO can do it?

In one, the number 100 is located at the top center, and in the other, it says 130. icon_wink.gif

The first half is divided into equal parts (up to 100), while the second half is divided into shorter intervals. And in the standard version, the structure is completely the same icon_wink.gif.

Hello.

You can send me your speedometer, and I'll load a different calibration curve or dataset onto it. What is the part number of your speedometer?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"MFG" is an abbreviation for "Mit freundlichen Grüßen," which means "Sincerely" or "Best regards" in English.

The part number is 1J0 920 845 C. Unfortunately, I can't ship the speedometer because I need it to drive.

Are there any other ways to adjust this? And shouldn't it be adjusted from linear to non-linear, since the OLD scaling was uniformly from 0-260, and the NEW scaling is uneven?

No, other types of adjustment are not possible. icon_wink.gif

..and which way is correct now? Is the old one linear, and the SE non-linear?

This is an 845.

That's a normal...

In principle, both the linear and non-linear versions look very similar when shifted. If you only change the slides, it's difficult to avoid adjustments. icon_wink.gif Find the appropriate one, and then we can say what works or what doesn't. icon_wink.gif

Okay, so far the pictures match my story. The lower one shows what my speedometer looked like before, and the upper one shows what it looks like now. As I said, my speedometer is a 1J0 920 845 C. However, it must be a niche model from the beginning of production, because I only have 6 symbols on one side. The newer ones have 8, as I've heard. So, the speedometer film is indeed appropriate for the age of my speedometer. However, it's not a Highline version like the rest of the speedometer, but an SE version.
I'm somehow stuck, but this thing should definitely display the correct speed.

Me again...
I've noticed another difference: On the new sheet, there's an EPC symbol where the WFS symbol used to be.

EPC simply means that this page was taken from a gasoline-powered speedometer. icon_wink.gif And to be clear, the only thing that will help you is a change in the dataset. icon_wink.gif You can talk about it for two more pages, but it won't get any better. icon_wink.gif

The scales are divided, so you will have a mix; you'll have the RPM scale for the diesel and the KM/H scale from the gasoline engine icon_wink.gif.
