Hello,
Someone completely wrecked my beautiful Passat Variant AFN on Good Friday!
Total loss due to an accident.
I was very satisfied with the engine; it performed well for me and lasted until it reached 352,000 kilometers.
The only repair done on the engine was the head gasket at 160,000 km, along with a few hoses along the way. The turbo, ESP, and injectors have been working without any problems.
I now need a replacement (preferably something newer, but a used car from between 1998 and 2002 would also be considered).
If I can still find a good one with around 110 horsepower, that would be great, but the initial market research doesn't look promising.
The search function lists the 115 hp PD AJM engine as 'not suitable.' Are all 115 hp engines that bad?
Are there also 'problem children' among the 130ers?
What should I pay particular attention to when it comes to permanent magnet (PM) motors?
Looking for a machine that can reach 300,000 km again, and ideally without needing a new PD (presumably referring to a specific component).
Is that wishful thinking?
Greetings from the north.
Faxes.

Hi & cheers,
The 110 hp version was also available with the VP37 and the newer engine block without an intermediate shaft.
The Passat 3B is based on the A4 and, unfortunately, offers significantly less space than the 35i.

Well, there are also examples of this type that have exceeded 300,000 km. Those manufactured from the year 2000 onwards have a modified cylinder head and a maintenance interval of 90,000 km for the timing belt. However, the 130 hp versions are undoubtedly more robust in terms of the engine block and crankshaft.
Generally, the lifespan of such an engine depends on its usage. If you end up with a car that has been heavily used, such as by a taxi driver, the risk of premature engine failure (regardless of the engine type) is significantly higher than with a privately owned and properly maintained vehicle. 3B5 AJM

Hello,
Thank you for your support.
As a result, it has now become a 3BG with AVF.
Year of manufacture: 06/2005. Mileage: 102,000 km.
I have one more question: How can I tell if I can still connect to the control units using VAGcom 3.11?
Does the BJ2005 already have a CAN bus?
How can you tell if a CAN bus is already installed?
The old 3B5 was completely sold to a dealer, who probably needed the airbags.
Regards,
Faxes.

I now have 172,000 km on my Seat Alhambra 4, model year 2002, with the 115 hp PD AUY engine, and I haven't had any problems other than it being a bit rough and noisy.
I haven't heard anything negative about Bosch oil filters either. As far as I know, they are very robust and reliable if you use the correct oil (505.01) and change the oil filter at the appropriate intervals.
It is frequently reported that the piezoelectric injectors (Piezo-PDs) from Siemens-VDO in the 2-liter common rail diesel engines experience a gradual loss of performance due to nozzle coking, even after relatively low mileage.

Hi.
"I also have a PD engine with 150 horsepower and about 150,000 kilometers (approximately 93,000 miles) on it, with a performance upgrade. So far, I haven't had any problems. According to the previous owner, the turbo was replaced at around 25,000 kilometers (approximately 15,500 miles). I personally replaced the PD wiring harness, and otherwise, everything has been fine. I'm also considering whether to keep driving it until it breaks down or sell it soon. The administrator of the forum always says that the injectors should be replaced around 160,000 kilometers (approximately 99,000 miles). I might have them replaced when I do the timing belt."
Can you somehow tell if the nozzles are worn out without having to remove them?

"But only with VP, as the maintenance effort is lower. With PD, I would already drive 200,000 km if no issues arise. It's essentially a risk-fuel consumption-cost assessment."

Hi Rainer,
Hello.
Best regards.

The Passat 3B, being based on the A4, unfortunately offers significantly less space than the 35i.
Generally, the 3B is larger in dimensions than an A4 (Avant), and certainly doesn't have significantly less space than a 35i . This may seem subjective.
