Hi.
I almost couldn't get my BMR on today.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"The following scenario:"
- Just below 0 degrees, let's say it was -1.
- discovered
- bzzzzt, the xenon headlights turn on - oh crap, "Leaving Home" by Silvester is still playing.
- Turn on the ignition so the xenon headlights don't turn off again; it's to prolong their lifespan.
- The Trekker is glowing.
- Still roll out the "ice sheet" from the sliding door and bring the bicycle from the small shed into the house (approx. 2 minutes).
- The Trekker started, meaning it attempted to start, but it wouldn't.
- Turn the ignition off and on again to allow the glow plugs to cycle on again.
I don't think he did it, because the second attempt was just as bad, but I just pushed through it.
With an idle speed of 1000 rpm and a loud, rattling noise (presumably from the exhaust), I drove through the town. The first stop at the flower shop, about 1 km later, was completely uneventful; it started right up, but was still making that funny noise.
The engine noise after the 3 km run and the approximately 2-hour stop was back to its usual level.
Does the BMR have any kind of glow plug preheating for the second attempt, and does it sometimes inject a small amount of fuel very early on, just in case it doesn't start immediately?

Are your vital signs still okay?
The EDC16PD always pre-glows for exactly 2 seconds, regardless of how cold it is. The duty cycle during this pre-glow is between 45% and 60%, and there is a cooling curve for the glow plug system. Consequently, during a subsequent pre-glow, the power is reduced via the duty cycle.
It's unusual that it starts up so roughly for that particular reason.
Check the fault memory. Errors in the glow plug system are monitored up to the GSK (likely referring to a specific software version or component) in this engine control unit version. selber schrauben - statt Werkstattpfusch

The funny thing is that he only did it that one time.
After that, and on other cold days as well, it always started properly. It must have something to do with the "ignition on" stage, but then it doesn't start.
I don't have an EDC; I have a PPD, which is a Siemens product.

Yes, that's right - I overlooked the BMR .
Unfortunately, I don't know the exact details of how the preheating is defined in the software for Siemens products. selber schrauben - statt Werkstattpfusch
