Hey, everyone!
Is there any way to adjust the software in the MSG regarding the activation temperature for the auxiliary heater?
How can I modify a glow plug heater (specifically, a 3-pin glow plug type for a Volkswagen Golf IV with an ALH engine, part number 038-906-012-M)?
Currently, the switch-over threshold is set to less than or equal to +0.9°C intake air temperature (G72) for activation.
Is there perhaps a program available on the market that allows you to read, modify, and re-install MSG software?
Is this also possible via the K-line? (Possibly with the help of VCDS??)
Or another question: Do the "friendly" forces have a way to install updates into an MSG?
Die im Forum beschriebene Hardwarelösung setzt ja den Ausbau und das Öffnen des MSG´s voraus. IcI would like to, but...
avoid potential future moisture ingress into the housing or at the connectors (due to aged seals!).
It's risky because it's unfortunately located in the water tank.
Thank you very much! Gedenk(e)feier(lich):

Would this also be possible via the K-line? - (possibly with the help of VCDS?) | The required hardware and software are nothing more than a basic chip tuning setup, because the auxiliary heater characteristic curve is hidden in the engine software, just like the performance-determining data.

However, within the scope of the updates, only "serious" problems with widespread occurrence were addressed. For a software modification of the auxiliary heater, you need to find a chip tuner who has exceptionally good knowledge of the software.
Or you could become a chip tuner yourself, but the path to that is arduous and expensive... Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf,
Thanks again for your explanation.
By the way, I really don't intend to become a chip tuner.
My car's standard power is enough for me -> No need for a sporty version!
I only want to change one parameter because the machine (and its interior) ...
They should become pleasantly soft and cozy relatively quickly in cool weather.
Hey, by the way, do you happen to know how one could determine whether an MSG file is flashable?
See you later - talk to you soon! Gedenk(e)feier(lich):

"038906012M is flashable... unfortunately, Günther is currently the only one who has asked about this, so the profitability of such a research project would be highly questionable."
Since I suspect VAG would also like it to be comfortably warm, I fear that increasing the temperature might have some disadvantages, such as a reduced battery lifespan.
Best regards, Rainer.

Rainer K. wrote: | | Since VAG probably also likes it to be comfortably warm, I fear that an increase in temperature has disadvantages of some kind, e.g., a reduced battery lifespan. | I would exclude this with 95% certainty because the electric auxiliary heater is switched off as soon as the average alternator load reaches about 100%. That means, based on my current information, a serious discharge of the battery is not to be expected, rather possibly premature wear of the relay contacts, because this thing doesn't just activate ~20 times per year, but depending on the desired heating curve, it activates ~200 times...

Hello Rainer K.,
danke für Deine Info bzgl. MSG flashback...
So, my starter battery (120A) doesn't exceed a load of 60-65%, since it doesn't have features like seat heating, etc. This is also the case during afterglow.
and simultaneously turn on the auxiliary heating system at level 1. Therefore, it likely has no impact on the battery, as Ulf also mentioned.
Do you have any experience with WinOLS, or which software would you recommend for finding the corresponding characteristic curve?
or use the relevant code section within the MSG?
Regards,
Günther. Gedenk(e)feier(lich):

You are aware that WinOLS...
a) costs a few thousand euros and...
b) is it only sold to companies or businesses?
Rainer and I both own the program legally...
and will probably react in a similarly annoyed way if someone were to come up with that idea.
Here, people are asking for help with using a cracked version.

Hey, you might find it useful to be in "D-Land" (Germany), as the right of withdrawal and potential support issues (YOUR SOFTWARE BROKE MY CAR! IT WAS SO EXPENSIVE AND I'M SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! I WILL SUE YOU!!!) could be relevant there.
It would be quite weak to buy software that costs more on its own than a heater with installation. And the person selling it hasn't even corrected the checksum, and doesn't have a tool to read or write the software in the engine control unit.
The cheapest solution for the person asking the question would be a time delay or a switch with a resistor in series with the sensor.
Therefore, I'm happy to sit down and find a solution for you at a rate of €100 per hour (net). If that doesn't work for you or seems too expensive, feel free to invest your own time and money in equipment.
