Hello everyone,
In an Audi A4 equipped with a BPW engine, the camshaft is defective. Two cam lobes are completely worn away, and the corresponding hydraulic lifters now have holes. The only solution is to replace the camshaft. The camshaft part number is 038109101AF, and it is also used in 2.0 BPW/BGW/BHW and 1.9L BKE/BRB engines. All these vehicles are equipped with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).
Now, my question for the engine experts.
Could I safely install the camshaft 038109101R, which is compatible with engines like the AVF, AWX, ASZ, ARL, etc.?
Are the differences between the two camshafts significant enough to cause problems with the car?
What are the differences in the camshaft lobe profiles? Does anyone have experience with this?
PD camshafts are different depending on whether they are for DPF-equipped or non-DPF-equipped vehicles.
This is one of the major differences, and even the SSP (Standard Service Procedure) points this out in relation to the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).
The reason is the "extended" camshaft, which allows for injection to continue even relatively late in the combustion cycle.
I think the EDC will notice it, or you won't be able to regenerate the DPF anymore because it can't properly inject fuel.
out of curiosity (I have the BGW), how many kilometers are on yours?
Are all the camshafts affected?
The car has now driven 94,000 km. Two camshafts are severely affected, four camshafts show signs of initial wear, and two camshafts are in perfect condition. It doesn't matter whether they are intake or exhaust camshafts; all of them are affected.
