Hello everyone.
I'm having a real problem with my Volkswagen Golf 4 1.9 TDI 74kW, manufactured in 2004.
"Sometimes, the car starts but immediately stalls. After that, I have to try starting the engine about 15 to 25 times before it finally runs. Once it's running, it restarts without any problems throughout the day, but sometimes it won't start again the next morning. This problem occurs in the summer when it's 30 degrees Celsius, as well as in the autumn during colder days and nights. I checked the error memory using VAG-COM, but found no errors. I cleaned the throttle body, replaced the diesel filter, and checked various sensors using VAG-COM, but nothing seems to be wrong. Which expert in this field has any other ideas? I would be very grateful for your help."

Did you read out the error codes for the immobilizer? Transparency, Teamwork

Okay, I've checked the immobilizer system. As I said, no error codes are appearing during the diagnostic scan.

Have you already checked the entire fuel system for leaks? Does it get better when the tank is more than half empty?

Hi,
Please check the coolant temperature sensor (G62). In some software versions, a faulty G62 can cause the engine to stall in a specific way: it happens when the system switches from the initial injection phase (with a relatively high fuel injection amount) to idle speed control. selber schrauben - statt Werkstattpfusch

"I've already checked the fuel lines and they seem to be sealed. It doesn't matter if the tank is full or half-full. G62? I have the manual here, but I can't find anything about it."

I also suspected a vacuum leak, but it wasn't that. That's why I changed the filter, because the O-rings on it can sometimes tear. But as I said, now it only starts sometimes. Could it be that it won't start again tomorrow morning?

The G62 sensor is located on the left side (when facing forward) near the water flange of the cylinder head. On the back, it has a two-pin connector with a plastic clip. selber schrauben - statt Werkstattpfusch

In the morning, with a cold engine, the diagnosis is:
- Test the engine control unit (ECU) coolant temperature sensor.
- Test the AI coolant temperature.
- Check the standard outdoor thermometer.
They should all be the same.
Or, according to vwSchrauber's theory, not at all.
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation. Transparency, Teamwork

I've read some data and I'm posting it here; hopefully, there isn't anything wrong. The temperature reading this morning was correct, but the engine started (it seems to have had a good day today). I just read the data again after driving, and here are the results.

This morning, it wouldn't start again. I checked all the temperature sensors I have, and they all showed the same value. I'm starting to get desperate.

Hi,
Does it make a "gurgling" sound when you turn on the ignition? Is the electric fuel pump connected to the diesel filter working properly?
Best regards, Rainer.

Does it only make sounds, or does it actually deliver fuel?
