Hello forum,

Since my VW used car warranty is about to expire, I'm thinking about what I can check to avoid looking foolish shortly after it expires. icon_confused.gif Furthermore, I'm considering how one might potentially save an extra Euro or two. icon_lol.gif

So far, I have not made a claim under the warranty because there are no defects (except for a noisy but functional air conditioning compressor icon_evil.gif).

However, I heard from an acquaintance who had arranged with another car dealership that they would replace the timing belt. icon_arrow.gif Since this is known to be expensive, he agreed with the dealership that the water pump would be declared defective. icon_exclaim.gif Then, the VW warranty paid for the water pump replacement... And of course, since the timing belt and all tensioner pulleys must be replaced at the same time when replacing the water pump, those were also covered by the warranty... } (This whole thing happened with an A8 3.3 TDI, but it should work just as well with our 'slightly' smaller version...)

Does anyone have similar ideas on how to get a lot of work done under warranty by exploiting a small defect?

Best regards and thank you in advance for your creativity.

except for the difference that, in the AHU engine, the water pump is driven by a timing belt, whereas in the IMO engine, it's driven by a V-belt! icon_sad.gif

And it's all likely happening under false pretenses...

@Alois:
You don't have to exaggerate things like in the example. But with that kind of background knowledge, I would at least take a very close look to see if my water pump isn't actually faulty.

@Joergs:
... Damn... (as we say here in the north...) I'll have to check later to see if that's actually true. If it is, your smiley face ( icon_sad.gif ) pretty much expresses what I'll feel then...
