VAGCOM 3022: Troubleshooting & Fixes

Hello.

Jörg's advice backfired on me completely.

VAGCOM 2082 generally works well, but VAGCOM 3022 closes with an error message stating "closed due to an invalid process" as soon as I select "save" in the program options.
The error message details mention something about an invalid page in the kernel, along with references to registers, etc.

This "naturally" only happens on my diagnostic laptop (even without a connection to the car), while the same action works perfectly fine on my tower computer in the study (Win98) .

Reinstalling the executable file on the laptop using a floppy disk instead of a CD didn't make any difference.

Does anyone know how I can get my laptop (Win98SE) to run the game "3022" completely?

If not - it's not too bad, I always keep the old, running software (2082) as a backup.

Unfortunately, you seem to be the exception. In fact, I've had 3 other cases where this version worked perfectly! Even my old 1Z model handled it without any problems!

The great 'early start' diagram only works for measurement group 000. And this group is only available in the licensed version, unfortunately not in the shareware version.

Hi Ulf,

Check if any of the VAG COM files are read-only (or the directory where you're trying to save them), as the program might crash without providing any helpful error messages.

The Vagcom.cfg file was read-only (and only that one), and the devil knows why this happened on the way from the internet tower to the laptop.
There were never any problems back then.

Anyway, I removed the write protection, and now it works.
(I could have figured that out myself ).

Your description of the problem sounded terribly familiar to me.
I encountered this problem because I copied the files from a CD-ROM, and in the process, the "read-only" attribute was set. It was a great mistake, I can tell you.

but, as I said: in many other cases, it works without any problems!

It's registered with VAG-COM (so it's not shareware), and I couldn't find any read-only files either.
Does anyone have any advice?

It appears to be an unregistered or incomplete version! The TDI-graph function only works with display group 000, and that display group is only available in the full version!

Yes, exactly. And that's not possible (with the default settings or the TDI graph). I registered it exactly as described on the diagnosetool homepage. Under the "About the Program" option, it also says: "Program fully registered/activated."
Is there a way to find out if it's related to the registration? Or would reinstalling it help?

Okay, I know what you're thinking – that it might be a pirated copy or something. Well, anyway, thanks very much. I'll do a little more troubleshooting or maybe contact the manufacturer.
