Hello,

I have a 90 horsepower Golf Variant, manufactured in October 1999. I've noticed that it often behaves very differently when accelerating. Sometimes it has full power across all RPM ranges, while other times it experiences a noticeable drop in power between 2000 and 3000 RPM. It feels like a rubber band is being stretched. Once I go above 3000 RPM, the power returns. I checked the error memory, but there are no entries.
What could be the reason for that?

Regards,

Achim.

Hi.

That reminds me of my time with the troublesome VTG.
What is the engine code of your car?

Can you perform measurement runs with data logging of the boost pressure?

Hello Ulf,

It's an ALH. Do you have any tips for me regarding that?

Regards,

Achim.

Hi Achim,

No, nothing else. Everything else would be, in my opinion, more or less wild speculation.

Hello Abra!

'I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my A4 2.5 TDI. The performance drop is particularly noticeable after a short pause (20 minutes) following a fast drive on the highway. When I accelerate on the on-ramp after that, it feels like I'm driving a 2.5 SDI... Additionally, my top speed is slightly reduced (speedometer reads 210 km/h). The VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) has been checked and cleaned, but it might not be functioning correctly under all operating conditions.'
I've now come to terms with the different quirks of my TDI.
