Hello,
Does anyone have any interest in a K-L USB adapter?
I've done a little research, and it would be quite simple to convert my adapter to USB, which would be quite useful with today's laptops.
Best regards,

That would even be necessary, because most modern devices no longer have COM ports!

Hi.
I agree with Jörg!
Are there already VAGCOM versions that can communicate via USB ports? Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf,
"In my opinion, that's not the problem. You can simply map the entire signal to a virtual serial port using a small driver, and then pass that data to VAG-COM."
The fact that it's all being played via USB doesn't register at all with VAG-COM.
You'll have to convert it to a serial connection (meaning RS232, as USB is also a type of serial connection), because that's the only way to interface with the car's diagnostic interface.

Hi,
Jan is almost right, but you need to do a little more than just a simple serial-to-serial conversion *g*.
The VCOM port isn't a big deal, I just think that USB might cause problems because USB is a single-master system, meaning only the PC can request data, whereas with a serial connection, anyone can send data. The smallest time interval is 1ms, which already means a delay of 2ms in the ideal case, considering a request from the VM Com driver (cyclically) and a response. I don't know how VAG Com handles this. I'll set it up and test it.
If it doesn't work, we'll still need to add a microcontroller (uC) to the adapter, which would be a more elegant solution and would also eliminate any timing issues.
Ideally, this should only be done with the help of VAG COM software.
I'll take care of getting everything I need and setting it up, and I'll report back here later.
Best regards,

I had the exact same problem. Since my new laptop only has USB ports, I first tried using a USB to Serial adapter, but VAG-Com couldn't find the connector that way. Then, recently, I bought a USB connector from DRV. It came with a special driver specifically designed for VAG-Com, and it works very reliably, and the communication is much faster than before. However, the catch is that it supposedly only works with XP.

Hello,
I just saw on Ross-Tech that there is now a USB version of VAG-Com available --> http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/. Has anything developed regarding USB-to-OBDII interfaces yet? I wanted to connect my interface at a friend's place today, but we realized that his laptop also no longer had a serial port --> . Have a nice evening --> .
