Hello, DIY enthusiasts!

I have here an Octavia 1 from 2005 with BFQ 1.6 8-valve engine, currently with almost 190,000 km, the original owner until today, and this error has appeared periodically since around 45,000 km:

After a long time, the "Sporadisch" (intermittent) issue reappears.

On long journeys of over 200 KM or on hot days, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) may occasionally turn on and off by itself - the error disappears on its own, but on cooler days, it may occasionally come back with this error. "Consumption is normal, no oil consumption, does not jerk, emissions values and lambda value are verschandeln at 1.0000 and CO 0.01, HC 8-11"

Back then, Skoda replaced both lambda sensors, the catalytic converter, and the intake manifold, but it didn't help at all.
I have repeatedly checked the intake manifold for air leaks using brake cleaner, followed the smoke with a burning match, etc. I finally found the problem at the catalytic converter, and I thought that the leak at the weld where the sensor was located was the cause: I welded it, but unfortunately, the problem still occurs. icon_rolleyes.gif The exhaust manifold from the sensor to the catalytic converter is 100% leak-proof.

Installing a test lambda probe before and after the cat did not work, unfortunately.

Measured the cable all the way to the MSTG and moving the cable bundle didn't help.

The owner doesn't care, because the car runs perfectly and without any problems, even the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) no longer bothers him, but I am VERY interested in what the actual problem is, in the first place?

When I perform the readiness test, it works perfectly.
Having searched through various forums for this error, I've found very few solutions icon_rolleyes.gif

I would have also guessed "lambda probe" because it was exactly the same error. The sensor was replaced and the problem was solved. Could you replace the sensor? What do the contacts on the connector do?

Have you ever measured the probe?

Either replace the Lambda sensor connectors, as there are some with gold contacts, or replace the cables to the control unit. Measuring only works if the cable is disconnected, if there are contact problems, or if the cable is damaged due to insulation problems. In these cases, measuring usually doesn't provide useful information.
Or did you test it with a load?

If there is no electrical fault that can be found: I am not 100% sure, but there should be software version 7290 for that control unit. icon_idea.gif

Okay, if the box is back here, I'll check the software version. It probably doesn't make sense to pay for an update on an old system.

Plug, cable up to MSTG is functioning normally, also testing with both probes separately didn't show any issues...

Are OEM probes installed or universal probes?

Is there possibly a blockage in the exhaust system?
