Question: Info on CAN-Bus Interface RKS+CAN variants

I am interested in these two products, but I was unable to reach anyone in Switzerland by phone or through any contact form. Unfortunately, no one has responded.

I am interested in this product: CAN-Bus Interface RKS+CAN.

What is the difference between the two versions?

- CAN-USB Interface Kit
- OBD2 Diagnostic Kit

I only need to read and clear error codes, and if possible, reset the service indicator.

Furthermore, this product includes:

- VCDS diagnostic system HEX-V2 / unlimited license => I have various vehicles that I read data from, reset service intervals, and potentially perform other tasks. Service that requires coding.

The CAN-USB Interface Kit includes licenses for all programs from the RKS+CAN installation package, which are:
- KCANMonitor (CAN bus sniffer/monitor)
- KOBD2Check (OBD2 diagnostic software)
- KDataScope (Log Analyzer)
- KPower (power measurement)

The OBD2 diagnostic kit is missing the license for KCANMonitor.

As far as the engine control unit (ECU) is concerned, and if it is accessible via K-Line or CAN, then yes.

I now have VCDS at home. How do I access the KOBD2Check software so that I can read and clear error codes for other brands as well? Can I use the same software as for the VCDS diagnostic system with the HEX-V2?

Hi Pascal,

RKS+CAN is a proprietary interface and has nothing to do with VCDS. Available like the rest in the automotive diagnostics shop.

If you're only interested in OBD2 functionality for non-VAG vehicles, you can also use the OBD-2 button within VCDS. However, the RKS+CAN offers additional features such as extended readiness PIDs, very fast data logging, and a software/CVN check for many VAG engine control units.
In addition, KDataScope automatically unlocks its full functionality (dongle function).

Overall, the primary purpose of the RKS+CAN device is to sniff and log data on the CAN bus using KCANMonitor.
