Programmable ECU for AFN Engine - Buy Now!

In my Passat 3B5, model year 1999, the following control unit is currently in use: 038 906 018 FD.

I would now like to modify the characteristic curves and am looking for an engine control unit where the one-time programmable EPROMs do not need to be desoldered and replaced with EEPROMs.
It should also work with the original wiring harness (two connectors, 121-pin connection), a vacuum-controlled VTG turbocharger, and a VP37 injection pump.
It would be great if I could save and select at least two complete datasets.

Which part number(s) are applicable for this?

To be honest, I can't recall any engine control unit (ECU) for the AFN engine that already had a flash chip installed.

Besides that, the engine control unit itself needs to support flashing the modules via OBD, and I'm not aware of any that do. Consequently, there isn't a corresponding tool available either.
Possibly, it could be done via a bootloader, provided the control unit has a compatible CPU.

Soldering sockets for PLCC32 chips isn't really difficult; you just need a decent PLCC32 socket puller, and that's all there is to it. Overall, it's quite easy to work with, in terms of the tools required.

Soldering the bases is actually quite good, it's just a bit fiddly.
'I also have an EPROM programming device, so I'll tackle the rewiring sometime this week.'

Which device numbers are applicable?
Currently, you can easily find these control units for around 50 euros at a scrapyard, so I thought I would simply modify a couple of them so that I can easily swap out the entire unit for testing purposes.

Are there any engine control units (ECUs) that can be flashed via OBD2 and that are compatible with a VP37 injection pump and a VTG turbocharger?
Is it sufficient to solder the EEPROMs into my control unit and then program it via OBD2?
The information you find on the internet is often inconsistent.
I definitely have OP chips in it, and it's said that the EDC15-V5.56 is programmable.

Definitely not via OBD2 (a manufacturer-independent emissions-related diagnostic system that doesn't even know about flashing), and I'm not aware of any options via OBD either.

The EDC15V is equipped with flash memory and is definitely flashable via OBD (I had this experience with an Octavia ASV).
Part number(s) 038 906 012xx (the ASV had 012HC).
Disadvantage: The wiring needs to be adjusted, and the WFS (likely referring to a specific system or component) as well.
