Hello everyone.

'Today I was wondering if it's possible to build a cruise control system yourself. In my Golf 3 AFN TDI, I think everything should be there except the cruise control lever. I read somewhere that you just need to replace the gear stick and plug a three-pin connector into the steering column.' Then, one should be able to build a cruise control system themselves using a button or switch, and activate it using VAG Com. icon_idea.gif

Do you know what I mean? icon_question.gif icon_confused.gif

I would be grateful for any tips.

Best regards,
Ralf

Hi,

Try using the search function. It's actually exactly as you described, and it's even cheaper if you build the switch yourself.

With the search function, you should even be able to find links to installation guides.

Best regards,

Jan.

Thanks for the tip, Jan.
I also found something. It's very unclear to me.
Hasn't someone already done this before, and can someone explain it to me in German icon_biggrin.gif?
It shouldn't be that difficult, really!

Thank you.

Hello, maybe this will help: http://www.tdi-umbau.de/Technik/Tempomat/tempomat.htm

However, I prefer the original steering column lever! icon_biggrin.gif

And even better, the new lever with the rocker arm on it! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for.

I also prefer the original version. However, it is also more expensive and more complicated to install.

Maybe later.

See you later.
Ralf.

Hello Golfman!

I also built the cruise control system myself for my Golf III AHU.
However, I didn't install the switches next to the radio as shown here (http://www.tdi-umbau.de/Technik/Tempomat/tempomat.htm), but instead used microswitches directly inside the turn signal lever. The turn signal lever is split at the end and clipped together, which makes it relatively easy to install the switches.
However, running the wires from the turn signal lever to the steering column is a bit tricky, as there's only a small opening there for the cables. I used computer ribbon cable (with the individual wires separated) and ran that through, and it worked perfectly! I've been using this setup for over 2 years and it's been working well.
After a break-in, my car was damaged, with the dashboard and other parts destroyed, costing almost 5000 DM. Additionally, my turn signal was broken. I've been using the original VAG cruise control system for about a year now, but I don't really like it. I find the arrangement of the buttons impractical and not very ergonomic, and it's also outrageously expensive at 68 euros.
If you feel like it, take a picture of your steering wheel and send it to me. Then I can show you where I installed the switches, or explain the details. It's easier to do that with a picture.
P.S. The flat connector for the cruise control module has 4 wires (the part number for mine is 191972704) - to help with your search!

Well, that's certainly quite informative. Thank you!
I'll take a picture and email it to you.
Where did you find the original plug? Is it on the steering column, or like for others, behind the pedals, hidden under the carpet?

Best regards,
Ralf

Do the cables in the 1Z wiring harness used in the Audi B4 have the same color coding as those used in the VW? Could not find anything corresponding to that in the circuit diagram!
Is the GRA (Gravitational Roll Angle) only integrated into the electronics if the vehicle is equipped with Autocheck?

Hi!

The plug is located (as far as I remember) behind the pedals, between the cable bundles from the fuse box and the black foam mat/perforated plastic cover (I don't know how else to describe it, it's a type of plastic with holes, like a shopping basket).

Best regards,

Thank you, I think I understand what you mean. I've held that many times before.

I'll look into it and report back.

Best regards,
Ralf
