Hello, I noticed today that my serpentine belt is damaged on the rear edge. It looks like something is grinding away at the belt from the top.

It's not visible from the top or bottom where this is happening. Does anyone recognize this and can tell me what to do?

Thank you.

Sorry for hijacking your thread with a question.

Is the role on the Lima the one with the freewheel?

As a potential cause of the damage, I would suggest that the intermediate shaft in image "Riemen3.jpg" might be the culprit.

Did the 3B have the lanegs motor installed? If so, removing the lower casing (like on the G3) probably won't reveal much more, right?

What might be wrong with it?

Yes! Then removing the lower casing (like on the G3) won't reveal much more, will it? I already removed it, but unfortunately, you can't see anything there either! icon_sad.gif

Yes, with 99% certainty, I recognize my role as described.
And my bra definitely has a loose strap.

Okay, so now I know what she looks like.

I'm experiencing this squeaking noise at very low speeds, and the freewheel is supposed to help prevent it.
(VW KD Service: 1.9L Diesel)
AAZ, AEY, AFN, AHU, 1Y, 1Z
Serpentine belt noise in the RPM range.
900/min to approximately 1,200/min.
Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.

But that silly freewheel cartridge costs 60-80 EUR, as far as I know.

Besides, I first need to build a VW3299 to be able to pivot the rollers (and satisfy my welding cravings).

Has anyone ever switched from a standard spool to a free-spool spool?
Does this really make a difference?

Sure, here's the translation:

"Another question:"

Is the KRR always patterned on the "smooth" side, like with KombiBlue?

Mine is actually quite smooth icon_eek.gif.

Hi there,

Let's do it again, free-running style.

Last year, I switched from a temporary to a permanent position. Since then, the tensioning roller in the LL (likely referring to a specific machine or system) has been making a very loud and rattling noise.
The freewheel, therefore, smooths out the belt movement. I can't imagine how it could help with squeaking.

The tensioner (I assume it's just the tensioning element) is 1 year/20,000 km old.

I got this information from a colleague in another forum.

If this is confirmed, the following steps should be taken:

Is the noise being altered or eliminated as a result?
The function of the span element should be checked as follows:

Remove the tensioning element and secure it in a vise, ensuring the square profile is properly aligned.
Insert the 3/4-inch ratchet into the two-pronged opening of the clamping element.

However, your tips only apply to transversely mounted engines, and even with these transversely mounted engines, the ribbed belts are smooth! icon_wink.gif

Hello, the puzzle has been solved:

The water pump pulley is inexplicably positioned too far forward. The ridge on the belt is forming where it runs hollow over this pulley!

Has anyone else experienced a problem with the water pump, and can you explain what happened?

And what happens if I continue like this? Will I eventually lose the water pump pulley?

Thank you.

Has the freewheel ever been replaced on your alternator? If so, you might have the wrong pulley on the alternator.
Just two weeks ago, I tried to get a new freewheel from Volkswagen, but it wasn't possible based on the engine data. The freewheel that was eventually installed had the opposite effect. It was positioned too far outwards, causing the belt to run over the outer edge of the water pump.
The KD master said there were approximately 20 different models in the catalog. However, to be fair to him, he personally worked on my van for about an hour, and I didn't pay him a single cent.
I actually got the correct free-running pulley for a little more than half the price of the VW part from a parts store.
Regarding off-leash areas in general:
1. Is the belt drive now quiet again?
"2. I also replaced the vibration damper (crankshaft pulley) because it had a wobble. I'm not sure if that's the right diagnosis, but my suspicion is that the vibration damper failed due to the extreme vibrations in the timing belt system. It's an expensive part; it costs 260 euros. In any case, I won't drive without a free-running clutch again, and I'll always make sure it's well lubricated and that the dust cap is in place."

Hello, the original freewheel roller is still on the Lima. Also, all the rollers were faulty, except for the one on the water pump! icon_twisted.gif
