Hi everyone,
Since it was time for another engine oil change yesterday, I also took the opportunity to check the timing belt.
Dabei musste ich feststellen, dass der gesamte Riementrieb stark mit rotbraunem Abrieb vom Zahnriemen bedeckt ist. Is that normal?
The timing belt itself shows no cracks or fraying on the outside.
Is there a wear limit for the thickness of a timing belt?
Engine: AJM; Model Year: 2000; Mileage: 56,000 km.
Best regards, Jürgen.

I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.
Wear limit for the AJM: 27 mm. Tschüss

Hello Michael & Jürgen,
The width is 27mm - Jürgen is referring to the thickness.
I've noticed that the tire tread has significant wear on the surface with approximately 80,000 kilometers (around 50,000 miles), and the tire's internal structure is already exposed.
The thickness is likely to have decreased here as well.
He's going to be fired soon.
The minimum tread depth hasn't been reached on my tires yet.
I also have that 'rust dust,' I think it's normal.
I would have preferred to install a Conti belt, but none of my usual suppliers have it in stock, so I'll have to go with a Gates belt. Is there anything wrong with using a Gates belt?

Thanks, guys!
I actually meant the thickness, but I'll also measure the width sometime.
Best regards, Jürgen.

Hi,
I'm not sure if it's transferable (VP <=> PD), but regarding...
My timing belt hadn't needed to be replaced yet at 180,000 km.
To see tissue.
Best regards, Rudi.

Rudi, are you going to take us seriously? Isn't a timing belt failure, with all its consequences, practically a foregone conclusion? Don't you think that's reckless?
On the other hand, the timing belt in my 1980 Passat with engine code YN lasted 242,000 km. However, it didn't have to drive an injection pump.

I probably should have written 'during the 180,000 km timing belt replacement.'
So, overall, I came in second place.
Sorry.
Best regards, Rudi.
