'Does anyone have experience using 0W-30 oil that meets the VW specification 50600 or 50601 in TDI engines with a distributor injection pump? A particular feature of these oils is their reduced high-temperature viscosity (HTHS = High Temperature High Shear) of < 3.4 milliPascal-seconds [mPa.s]. As far as I know, these oils are only specified for PD-TDI engines.'
In my 1998 AFB, it has been installed from the beginning! I would almost say that the oil consumption of my engine is hardly measurable!! Luckily for me!! With 192,000 km!
Thank you for your responses.
So, does the VW/Audi Longlife approval simultaneously mandate the use of HTHS < 3.4 mPa.s oils according to specifications 50600/601?
This means that these engines are designed to work with these specific oils, and should not be operated with conventional oils (with an HTHS viscosity greater than 3.5 mPa.s).
almost correct.
You can use 'normal' oil in a LongLife vehicle, but with a fixed oil change interval (every 15,000 km). However, for TDI-PD engines, it is essential to use oil that meets the 505.01 standard (which is for PD engines without the LongLife designation). For gasoline engines, use oil that meets the VW 502.00 standard.
Under no circumstances should long-life oil (HTS < 3.4) be used in a vehicle that has not been approved for long-life oil. This will inevitably lead to bearing and engine damage at high temperatures and under load.
