Hello everyone! I'm having a huge problem with my A6 2.5 TDI, manufactured in May 2000. The car has very little power and occasionally makes a knocking sound as if the engine is going to fall apart. The error memory always shows the same message - 'injection timing' - but otherwise ALL values are correct. I've been to my workshop four times already, and the mechanics at the dealership seem increasingly clueless icon_confused.gif. They first replaced the mass airflow sensor, then the fuel injection pump. Then, on another occasion, they made diagnoses and supposedly adjusted settings. A week ago, during my last visit, a control valve was also replaced in record time, taking almost a week. But it didn't achieve anything... well...? I would be very grateful if anyone of you has any ideas that could help me or my car with the help of advanced technology. Thanks in advance and greetings, Dirk.

Hello Dirk,

The needle position sensor is used to regulate the start of injection. If it malfunctions, I imagine that the injection timing can no longer be properly controlled, which could cause knocking and shaking in the engine.

If you disconnect the NBF (although I'm not sure if it's possible and how to do it), the motor should still run in emergency mode. If the vibrations disappear at that point, then you have found the cause.

Regards,
Udo.

Hello Dirk,

What is the engine code for that engine?
Do you have any readings? If so, could you please post them here?
Unfortunately, it often happens that these measurements are carried out under incorrect conditions. Even more frequently, they are misinterpreted or not interpreted at all.
If all the measurements are truly accurate, an error like the one you described is highly unlikely to occur, because the start of injection is one of the measured values and is checked against certain limits.
Do you perhaps still have the error code?
Tschüss

Michael II

Hello Udo, Hello Michael II,

Excellent reaction times, well done!

My engine code is AKN, and unfortunately, I didn't receive a printout detailing the specific values. However, I plan to obtain that information. This morning, I visited a VAG dealer in Horn-Bad Meinberg, and the service manager took a significant amount of time to assist me with my Audi. The diagnosis was 'Injection timing regulation difference,' but unfortunately, I also don't have the corresponding error code (which I will follow up on).

Best regards, Dirk.

Hello Dirk,

You can find the target data and framework conditions for each measurement block within the AKN system in the error database.
Tschüss

@DirkViewing profile: Dirk:

How many kilometers have you driven? Have you ever checked your camshafts? In my AKN engine, they are worn out, with approximately 150,000 km on the clock. This results in a significant loss of power.
