Hello everyone,
Having now installed 3 LDAs in 3 different cars, I think a photo collection of LDA installations might be suitable as a kind of "visual guide" to help other TDI drivers avoid the daunting task of installation and to provide suggestions regarding the installation location, electrical connections (where to tap into), and the routing of the pressure hose.
@Rainer, as the host:
What do you think about it? Are there potentially any issues with server capacity?
If there are no objections from your end:
What does the rest of the group think?
Sure, here's the translation:
"Meaningful?"
Or would something like that, with the high technical standards of this site, be considered something that "everyone should be able to do" – like "installing a simple LDA"? Gruß Ulf

Hi,
I would be very much in favor of... We could do it in a way where we have one or two images each time, and then link to the corresponding post, if one exists.
Then we'll provide a quick overview, and detailed information will only be provided when needed.
Best regards,
Jan.
P.S.: My photos can, of course, be used for that purpose. 1Z5 CFHF / AHB H4D |

Brilliant idea! And if anyone knows of a source for indicator elements other than the standard 52mm size, that would be great. An analog display in a rectangular format of 40 by 20 mm would have a certain appeal.
Best regards, Robert. |

Hi,
I initially wanted to build something analog in the size 48x24, but I soon realized that there was nothing available (or I couldn't find anything). Then I searched for a way to convert the electrical signal to an analog signal, but I also couldn't find a good and suitable analog panel meter in the right size (it would work just like the digital one in my circuit).
The conclusion was that a digital display with a resolution of 48x24 was feasible.
Best regards,

Hi Robert,
It would be quite easy to do with minimal effort: tap into the LD sensor voltage using an impedance converter and feed it to a moving coil instrument of the desired size (of course, with appropriate adjustments for sensitivity, etc.).
One potential drawback compared to a standard LDA might be the display of absolute pressure.
If one then suppresses the voltage for the ambient pressure, the zero point would shift with high and low pressure areas and the altitude above sea level being traversed .
If one wants to circumvent this, one must invest in an additional (differential) pressure sensor. Gruß Ulf

I do have an absolute value generator, but it's a separate one, and that essentially creates the same problem.
It doesn't really bother me, quite the opposite. I had set the zero point at "normal pressure" in Berlin, and now, before starting, I always get an immediate indication of the current pressure conditions .
Seriously, the +/- 10...50 mBar variation doesn't really matter given the accuracy of such a construction, and in my opinion, it's even useful in the sense mentioned above.
Cost-wise, there's no significant difference. Both the absolute and differential sensors cost around 25 euros, which, in my opinion, is worth it because it avoids the need to tap into the original sensor. This allows you to monitor the original sensor and also eliminates the risk of circuit errors or failures affecting the engine control unit.
Best regards,

Hello again,
The vote is quite clear in its outcome so far, although the participation has been somewhat low.
Rainer and I are currently working on bringing the photo collection to life.
However, it will likely take some time, as I will be on vacation next week and will probably be traveling = offline.
To prevent the "top" section of the forum from being overwhelmed with important threads, I'm now classifying this one as a regular thread.
I'll revive this thread again when the collection is officially opened.
See you later... Gruß Ulf

Hello again.
Okay, a first version of the LDA-plugin collection is now online.
In addition to your contributions to the expansion of the collection, we also welcome any other suggestions you may have . Gruß Ulf

Well, my solution isn't that great, especially when it comes to the technology involved.
Bracket for the A-pillar from kw-systems, analog boost pressure gauge from VDO, boost pressure tapped off with a T-piece, illumination is red, boost pressure line runs through the control unit housing into the interior!
(Image deleted and copied to the photo collection / Ulf)
Regards,
Manuel. |

Hi Manuel,
I copied your picture into the photo collection and deleted it here in the thread, so that no parallel collection is created .
I hope you agree with this... Thank you for your contribution! Gruß Ulf
