Hi.

While I was cleaning my intake manifold, I noticed that only the 1Z model has an intake manifold that is more or less a manifold with a branch to the four intake channels.

All other TDI models offer a certain amount of volume in the nozzle.

What is the prefix and suffix of this volume?

By the way, the ALE is a wastegate, and it also has a volume, so you can't directly connect it to the VTG charger...

Hi,

ASV:

http://www.informatik.hu-berlin.de/~richling/tmp/IMG_2463.JPG

I would guess that this is a result of the "evolution" of the design. Immediately before the intake, there is likely to be a significant amount of turbulence, because the airflow has to alternately go to the inlets, and it is under considerable pressure. If you add a kind of collection chamber in front of it, it serves as a pressure buffer and may compensate for some of the turbulence.

By the way, the "box" itself is completely hollow and smooth on the inside, and therefore has no air vents or similar features, as the investigations with the bottle brush revealed.

Best regards,

Jan.

I'm just wondering why, apparently, the AAZ engine had a large turbocharger, the 1Z had a small one, and then the ALE, AFN, and all those that followed had a large one again?

It looks like someone was really experimenting wildly there...

I'm going to try to get my hands on one to see if there are any noticeable differences in the 1Z.

If I had a 180-degree bend for the intercooler, I could finally realize my dream of installing a bypass valve by taking a fitting from the G4 port.

Since the seals are the same, the sleeves must therefore also fit icon_wink.gif.

Hi Martin,

"However, you'll also need the EGR unit from a 038 engine, as the shut-off valve is integrated into it. You won't be able to connect your EGR system there because the adapter plate doesn't have the corresponding hole."

It's obvious that I'll need struts and (an AGR valve/flap).

But if I can get a sock for 1 EUR, then I can still afford the 100 EUR for the AGR, and I still need the 180-degree bend... icon_sad.gif

Does anyone know why the box has gotten bigger again???

Hi Martin,

See the speculations above.

Regarding the intake manifold: You should be able to adapt something using parts from the Ibiza models produced between 9/99 and 3/02 (specifically the GP01 generation, which is what I have). The air filter housing is located in the same position on your car and on the GP01 (lower left, facing forward), so the airflow path for a 038 intake manifold should be identical (which should be visible in my pictures).

Best regards,

Jan.
