VAG-COM fails to connect

Hello!


I borrowed a VAG-COM device from a friend. Since I'm completely new to the program, I'm not familiar with it. My problem is that it's not establishing a connection or finding any control units. I drive a Passat from 2001 with an AWX engine. It works perfectly on my colleague's Passat, which I think is from 1998. What's the problem?

I don't believe this topic brings much new information, except that almost all adapter hardware that isn't sold by VAG-COM distributors isn't very good, or can only be used with versions of VAG-COM that are already outdated.

Please don't blame VAG-COM, but rather the seller of the adapter hardware.
You can easily avoid such problems by purchasing quality products from a reputable distributor.
