Is there anywhere a somewhat realistic advertisement for sports filters?
Quote: | A sports air filter ensures better ventilation for the engine and is generally recommended. The soot emissions in diesel engines can be reduced by up to 30% with its use. A performance increase can only be detected minimally (max. 3 kW).
*** recommends that its customers use *** sport air filters. These air filters increase the airflow by approximately 40% compared to the standard air filter. . . . Due to the improved combustion in the engine, . . . the environment is significantly relieved. |
(Wow: 40% more airflow, that's basically like a turbocharger. GOIL, how would my car run with that!)
And many more "valuable" explanations, especially regarding chip tuning (and, very trendy: eco-chip tuning!), can be found under:

Where is the vomit emoji?
They state that the Golf 3 TDI has 210 Nm of torque (although most had 202 Nm - only the later models had 210 Nm) and they increase that to 280 Nm - presumably, all of them had wastegate turbos.
The 90 hp G4 (Waster and VTG) models at least specified the correct base torque of 210 Nm, but they only achieve 270 Nm.
Even the price list reveals a lack of technical expertise.
Then it's better to do the soldering yourself!

... there was another T.
I don't know what the f*ck it was.

@ Ulf,
No, organizations like NASA and ESA gain publicity for their space programs through innovations like this, which seems to come out of nowhere. It saves on launch weight! In cars, the filter isn't used primarily because of the prominent 'filter cavity.'

That's boring because it doesn't produce any sound anymore!
Making a lot of noise (as if your own car were really powerful is), is actually even more important than actually being faster . Gruß Ulf

Such a filter is nonsense! Hold it up to the light!!!
Unfortunately, I also had one in my Corrado G60! When the G-charger was being rebuilt, the mechanic also asked me what kind of filter I had!
He says I should use paper filters! I also saw why!
The inside of the loader looked gray... well, like when you're polishing aluminum and haven't finished yet!
It's like a gray haze, and there's already enough wear and tear! The seals are probably going to fail sooner because of that.
What will happen to the valve seats?
So, if you want your engine to last longer, you should use paper filters!
Just switch it out more often!!!
Hello.

For the noise competition, I could contribute a Corsa A. There's one in town that has a noise level almost as high as a starting Ariane 5. But you never know what's under the hood... see the nitrous-powered Corsa that exploded .

You're starting to scare me.
Many people in this forum are strong proponents of Textilhilfe, while others consider it to be hysteria and distrust the certifications issued by Textilhilfe.
I installed this type of filter, not primarily because of the sound, and not mainly to minimize air resistance.
It has already been proven in relevant technical articles that textile filters do not offer any significant advantages compared to paper filters.
It simply saves money in the long run.
@Bee
Did you always diligently oil the filter?
Because, according to my research, there is still no consensus regarding the potential harm of these filters.

What kind of approvals are you talking about?
For me, the only credible "approval" regarding the technical safety of engine hardware would be the inclusion of a sports filter in an official accessory catalog of the vehicle manufacturer. After all, "sports" exhaust systems are already found in such catalogs. Gruß Ulf

Okay, point to you, Ulf.
Admittedly, this also gives me something to think about.
But: I remember having this argument refuted.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'O-ton:'
Argument 1)
Due to the poor vehicle maintenance practices (fluid changes of all types) of our customers and the long service intervals, we believe it is risky to offer T-filters.
Argument 2) Paper filters represent a significant market for retailers and the supply industry. Offering 'help for self-help' (e.g., T-filters) instead of just providing assistance would not be appreciated by them.
Argument 3) Using logic, you should never have allowed the 10-cent deposit system. Just listen to what the manufacturers and lobbyists have to say about this issue!
Greetings.

@BesidesMom
I followed K&N's instructions regarding oiling! I'm sure I applied too much oil, but definitely not too little!
I've driven it for 2 years and 40,000 km.
I'll make sure not to do that again!
How it affects a turbocharger... I have no idea!
However, the valve seats and guides could potentially experience some wear and tear over time.
Even though some intake passages are already clogged due to the EGR system, more can accumulate. Or, the fine dust might be trapped by the sludge!
It's a problem again when the AGR is faulty!
You can't see through the paper filters! But with the T.Filter, 'I' could!
Und im Rennsport fahren die mit solchen Motoren ja auch nicht 200Tkm!! Or what???
But we want that, and even more!
Decide for yourself!!
This is just meant to be thought-provoking!
HELLO Enrico.

While a normal person wouldn't think there's anything good about the extra dirt in the engine (due to poor filters) , at least the disadvantages of a 10c tuning are offset by a certain benefit (i.e., more power). Gruß Ulf

@ Ulf
Two to zero , and sometimes, my piston, touched by a hot jet of combustion, might elicit the phrase 'what a piece of junk' from me.
@Bee,
Such descriptions definitely impress and convince me.
And I'll probably switch again because of descriptions like that.
Here, I have always been treated with competence, honesty, and fairness.
It's just that, as a naturally skeptical person, I need to make sure that the conditions under which a statement is made can withstand objective comparison. For example, you would have reassured me if you had checked the loader again after a comparison interval with a paper filter.
I was also initially impressed by the large holes in my T-filter, so I had placed a piece of air conditioning/range hood filter material between them (but nothing other than oil droplets got stuck, and it didn't turn gray).
I believe the T-filter utilizes a static effect to collect the particles, which is why oil is used to bind them.

Hm! You're right!
I also felt a bit uneasy! Because it seems like we're just attacking you.
Stay calm! / Take it easy!
When you really delve into a topic, you usually gain a lot of insights!
But with that sentence, you've hit me right in the heart! For example, you could have reassured me if you had taken another look inside the loader after using the paper filter for a comparison period.
I would have liked to do that! But the 2002 flood was faster than me!
Wasserstand in unserer Halle war 1,70m! Sniffle!!
Well, a friend of mine now has that turbocharger in his Corrado! Unfortunately, he doesn't drive it much enough to really tell how it performs.
'However, the housing halves had to be polished several times because they were prone to corrosion, or this corrosion would reappear after a short time! I believe the impeller was made of magnesium!'
And the housing halves are made of aluminum!
I would have liked to give you an answer to this question!
How does the T-filter exert its cleaning effect...?

...the company Grundler Motorsport (www.all4tdi.de) offers an air filter replacement specifically designed for TDI vehicles, here is the description.
Replacement sport air filter.
Many tuning companies either offer no aftermarket air filters for TDI engines, or they offer the same type of performance air filter that is used for gasoline engines. However, it is often 'forgotten' to inform customers about the disadvantages of such air filters!
'Without exception, all of the offered air filter elements are made of either foam or fabric that has been oiled to improve dirt filtration. However, this very oil, which is intended to protect the engine, actually causes more harm than good to TDI engines! The engines draw in small amounts of this oil, and it accumulates on the mass airflow sensor. This contaminates the sensor, causing it to gradually provide lower or even incorrect readings for the airflow. A gradual loss of power is common, and a defective mass airflow sensor is not an uncommon occurrence! The defect is caused by the fact that the mass airflow sensor is fully heated for a short period when the engine is turned off (usually to burn off dirt deposits like dust). This causes the oil to carbonize, and in the worst case, it can cause a short circuit on the sensitive circuits of the mass airflow sensor element!'
In dIn this case, however, the filter should be cleaned every 10,000 miles!
The filter is simply installed in place of the original filter element and is ready for use immediately! We do NOT offer a complete airbox that replaces the air filter housing, as this often leads to a loss of performance (because the engine would draw in warm air from the engine compartment, or if a hose is routed from the airbox to the front bumper, the volume of the airbox may not be sufficient to ensure adequate airflow to the turbocharger at higher RPMs; an airbox that meets these conditions would essentially be the same as the stock airbox!!!)
.....whether addressing the issue with the LMM was done merely for 'marketing' purposes or whether people actually engaged with it.
....some people try to sell you garbage as gold !!
Regards,
Monchi.
