Hi
I am driving the above-mentioned small truck, or I was driving it until yesterday.
The timing belt has snapped, and at least one valve has collided with the piston.
Later, I'll take it apart and see if it's still worth it.
However, I have a question first.
The bevel gear on the shaft for the chain belt is not fixed with a key, but rather with a conical fit.
After which points are the valve timing settings adjusted during assembly now?
Finally, the spur gear can be positioned arbitrarily on the shaft.
How do I do that? Where can I find instructions for that?
Best regards, Frank

You don't adjust the timing with the toothed belt. Seat Terra/Polo, which engine is it? 1.4 Diesel? I assume a 'normal' diesel, although even with TDI, the basic settings for mounting/dismounting the timing belt are the same. For example, the camshaft is secured using the adjustment scale (Image 1). Camshaft, Cylinder 1, still visible.

and the clutch has a marking on the flywheel that must be visible in the sight glass

Then nothing should go wrong. icon_wink.gif

Hi
Thank you for your response.
Finally, this is described in a sensible way online.
Maybe I'll need this for the next engine.
Unfortunately, my problem has been resolved for now.
Unfortunately, my suspicion about the timing belt has not been confirmed.
A piece of the valve had broken off and remained nicely inside the combustion chamber.
Head, other valve, both valve seats and the strut between the valves completely thoroughly dismantled.
No chance of re-machining or anything like that.
Head, therefore, total loss.
The piston looks accordingly.
Completely demolished.
Because I am concerned about hair cracks, I am also writing off the entire engine, including the piston.
I am now looking for a complete, identical car, or at least the same engine.
1.4 Liter Diesel, 35 KW power, and the engine code should be 1W.
Best regards, Frank

Hi!

While it doesn't directly relate to the engine, it's still relevant regarding... Terra interesting:

Hi, Jockel

Hi, buddy
As long as I can weld faster than the box rusts, everything will be alright.
I just bought the same thing again for 500 euros.
Take a look at it tomorrow...
But the engine seems to be 100% okay.
If it's too bad, then I'll just replace the engine.
Best regards, Frank

Hi, Jockel
Hi Jockel
You might not believe this now, but NEITHER I NOR the Tuev found even the tiniest hole in the bodywork.
'Brakes and other parts, of course, are free, but I can take all of that from the old car for free today.'
Except for the brakes, the handbrake cable, and minor things like headlight adjustment and seat adjustment, the car has no real defects that could cost money.

Only for the AU (annual inspection), I need to replace the timing belt.

Best regards, Frank
