I also had an error code in the diagnostic tool: "01336", which, according to the VAGFORUM, means "Data Bus for Comfort System," followed by "80-10" = "Single Wire Operation - Intermittent." It seems that it really was the comfort CAN bus that I tapped into at pins 8/9. I need to check again why there were no data signals coming through there.

I have a universal hardware device from KOPFWEB. It comes with a DLL that allows you to access the USB-CAN interface from any custom-written (C++) program. It works great. I'll need this later for work (CAN connection between the central control unit and the 70kW electric motor controller; I'm already gaining experience with CAN bus). Also, very simple controllers (e.g., C-Control II) have both USB and CAN connections. However, FlexRay is the technology of the future.

I am 99.9% sure that the WFS3 AI systems have a Comfort-CAN. Perhaps your comfort control unit doesn't yet have a CAN bus, and therefore the AI has nothing to communicate with it .

If the AI is connected to the desk, the Comfort-CAN might not automatically start sending data. However, simply sending a message on the CAN bus should initiate it. Nothing should break, except perhaps some error codes might appear.

If you're looking for something to play with indoors – it's getting colder after all – then consider an "Audi Chorus 2". You can find them on eBay for around EUR 30, and they are CAN-bus compatible and transmit data automatically. If you also get an Audi 8E instrument cluster (KI), you can create a great testing environment. The selected radio channel will then be displayed on the FIS (Multi Function Instrument).
