Similarly, the question arises as to how long the 505.01 specification will still be available in a 5W-40 viscosity grade.
Esso/Mobil only offers the successor product 505.01 in a 5W-30 viscosity grade.
Shell oil, same here.
and the OMV oil is also only available in 5W-30...

If you buy your oil from me, I can offer you a 10-year guarantee of availability for the 5W40 PD product!
How long do you plan to keep driving that car, especially if you're worried that the right oil for it might not be available soon? In that case, I'll just get a 200-liter drum of it!

The best oil for your engine is the one that meets the 50501 specification (without the "LL 2" or "LL 3" designation).
That is my current understanding. icon_wink.gif
Aftermarket DPFs are open systems and require a good catalytic converter, occasional full throttle driving, and oil that is not overly ash-free.

Hey Teileklaus...
Stay cool. Even your favorite brand, Ravenol, is advanced. icon_wink.gif
Here's the Ravenol oil in 5W-30 with VW 505.01 approval and low SAPS!
Release 505.01. More information can be found here:
RAVENOL HLS 5W-30
http://www.ravenol.de/products?part=342

Unfortunately, the data sheet for this oil does not list the 505.01 approval and probably needs to be adjusted.

Who knows how long the 5W-40 oil will be available with the 505.01 specification? Well, I think I heard that you shouldn't store oil for longer than 3 years. icon_smile.gif

I also work on 123 series Mercedes-Benz vehicles and engines that require 15W-40 or 20W-50 oil, and even that type of oil is still available 30 years after it was widely used as a standard lubricant.
Regarding favorite oil: The price-performance ratio must be right, and I'm open to trying other products.
I've been satisfied with it so far. Others love their Castrol products and are willing to pay more for the same specifications, and they are convinced of its quality.
Some other drivers swear by non-PD approved VS Mobile devices and are happy to pay three times the price for them... everyone has their preferences, I think it's great that I don't have to pay so much.
But I'm starting not to understand your concerns anymore. And that's where things get awkward - you're right about that.
An expiration date for oil?
Possibly, sediment may accumulate over the years. Therefore, turn the canisters upside down. icon_wink.gif

The brake fluid was the one with a limited shelf life. Unfortunately, it tends to absorb water, especially when stored in plastic containers, after just a few years.

Also, regarding engine oil as well:
The manufacturers recommend not exceeding a period of three to five years.

"Motor oil that is in an already opened container should be used within six months, because motor oil also degrades through 'breathing.' The outside air (humidity) reduces the effectiveness of the additives contained within."
If someone wants to, they can store it for 10 years... it's also a stable investment, and inflation will help it appreciate in value. That way, you'll make good money.
