Hi Tribune,

Does the wastegate on your turbocharger close properly?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Tribune,

Does the wastegate on your turbocharger close properly?

Greetings, Rainer

Hello Rainer,

I don't think I will clean it, and I definitely won't clean it on the weekend.

Best regards, Mike.

@Warlord
I think the engine bay is a thousand times better than on the 35i. Probably, you've never tried to access the turbocharger or the pressure sensor on our transversely mounted engines icon_wink.gif.

@Tribune
Regarding your question: The intake manifold is the silver cast part located to the left of the large plastic cover. (However, it's not clearly visible in the picture.)

But what I notice is that your AGr system is already out of operation: To the left of the 'ufo' next to the plastic cover is the pressure sensor for the EGR valve. There should normally be a hose connected to it. Have you already disabled it? If not, it was probably your predecessor. With a bit of luck, you've already solved your problem: The 'hose removal method' only disables the actuation of the EGR, but not the EGR valve itself. If you're unlucky, the valve is stuck in the open position... Try using the search function, there are more elegant solutions there. Also, it's a good idea to remove the part, clean it thoroughly, and check its function (again, use the search function)!

I deactivated it... but I didn't know that the EGR valve itself could still be functional! I will definitely take it apart and clean everything this weekend... and thank you for the tips. icon_smile.gif

Best regards, Mike.

'Yes, I actually did that recently. It's a nightmare and a miracle that I even managed to find the charger. I also got my hands on the wastegate canister, but I didn't manage to get the rod. Well, let's see if the next car will be a 1Z or an AFN (those are considerably more expensive than the 1Z, about €1,500, and that makes a big difference with a total price of €3,500). Besides, I'm almost regretting not getting a TDI (a VR6 with LPG and full equipment would be just as expensive as an AFN).'

Best regards, WarLord.

Okay, so I've completed the following work on my car!

- Intake manifold and collector cleaned.
- UNI pot installed (amazing sound icon_lol.gif).
- Replaced the CAT (catalytic converter) with a new one because mine was completely damaged! I kept the old one just in case.

Result:
It's performing much better than before, and you can also hear the turbo whistling again... icon_biggrin.gif icon_twisted.gif
and the UNI pot has a great sound when you remove the silencer...

Initially, all the soot that was inside the middle part came out, but that stopped happening! icon_wink.gif It only produced soot in the full load range, at approximately 4500-5000 rpm!

I'm completely satisfied with my car again!
I also don't think I'll have any problems with the race organizers, because we positioned the ESD icon_smile.gif a bit further back, more towards the inconspicuous area...

so long
Mike.

Was the catalytic converter really that full?
Did that thing really create that much back pressure?

Too bad.
Now it's impossible to tell what the cause was, because you did everything all at once.
How much effort is involved in cleaning the intake manifold? Do I need to replace any gaskets afterward?
Thank you and...
Best regards,

It was completely dead, you couldn't even hear the turbo... which is now whistling nicely again... icon_twisted.gif

Best regards, Mike.

The intake manifold isn't that much of a problem... icon_wink.gif If you've already loosened the screws, you've practically won... icon_twisted.gif Then just clean everything... If possible, 'rinse' it out with diesel or gasoline, and put everything back together... I was really shocked by the amount of dirt that was inside... icon_twisted.gif I'm glad everything is clean now... icon_twisted.gif

I think that Kat was to blame... everything else is fine!! At least, it's working the way it should now... the only significant resistance that's left is the middle pot! } }

Best regards, Mike.

Okay.
I think the screws need to be replaced. They are very corroded.
Or do they not look that bad on you?
By the way, there's a fairly high probability that my cat won't be the best either (see mileage)!

Best regards.

What does a 'durchgeschlagener Kat' mean? Does it mean that the entire KAT unit is gone, and only the pipe remains?

@ Wurstblinker: The screws aren't that difficult to remove. Just try it. Mine all came off evenly easily after 200,000 km... However, the gasket between the engine block and the intake manifold broke on mine... icon_confused.gif

He means 'I've cleared it up' or 'I've sorted it out.'

What is the price of this gasket?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'MFG' is an abbreviation for 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which means 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards' in English.

MFG

exactly... it may still look like a cat, but it's not really one anymore... it sounds strange... but that's how it is... icon_wink.gif

Best regards, Mike.

Best regards, Mike.
