However, to use the repair kit, you still need to remove the oil pan in order to be able to remove any debris, right?

Regards,
Alex.

Hello,

That's just so frustrating with the workshops... they're too lazy to even pick up a torque wrench icon_evil.gif.

I once read somewhere about a repair kit for oil pan screws. I think it was in the catalog from www.stahlgruber.de, but I'm not sure... Good luck.

So, anyone who needs a torque wrench for an oil drain plug is definitely a hopeless clumsy person icon_wink.gif.

The oil pan screw master from wbuchi82 would definitely have said it like this icon_wink.gif. Well, safety is my priority as an amateur mechanic, and I still have the time to take a torque wrench in my hand for 30 seconds.

I was once laughed at in a workshop because I got upset that the self-locking nuts on the axle weren't replaced during the wheel alignment (let alone using a torque wrench). The master mechanic told me, "no workshop does this," but then all four screws on the axle joints came loose on the highway, almost breaking my neck icon_evil.gif. They probably rolled their eyes when I showed up at the door again a day later.

That's all there is to say about the topic of "feeling."

Okay, I finally did it!
I inserted the threaded bushing and then we milled the sealing surface again. However, the milling shouldn't have been necessary. But during the first drilling attempt, it "ate" the drill bit a little. The threaded bushing is now such a hard material that even the most experienced workshop technician can't damage the threads anymore! icon_lol.gif
But I agree with "haehnlein," I am also a proponent of using a torque wrench! There's nothing worse than screws that are tightened incorrectly. Thank you again for your answers. This repair cost about €30 now! So, I was spared the expense of buying a new oil pan, all because of a single, ruined thread. icon_biggrin.gif

Best regards.

Did you remove the tub for the drilling operation?

Well... an oil drain plug and the suspension are two completely different things, right?

We don't make compromises here either...
but 25 years without a torque wrench on the oil pan and without any complaints, that speaks for itself, doesn't it? icon_wink.gif

by the way...the injection lines cannot be sealed properly even with the prescribed torque icon_wink.gif.

A professional would never use a torque wrench on the oil pan. They have a feeling for it.

Yes, the oil pan obviously had to be removed. Without proper alignment and a perfectly vertical fit, it simply won't work. Also, all debris should be removed from the oil pan. I had already managed to extract some small shavings from the coarse intake filter. These shavings likely entered the oil when the threads were loosened. However, removing it wasn't a problem (at least on the A3 8L).

Best regards.

Hmm, a torque wrench might also be useful for me sometime, but I've always tightened the drain plugs on the oil pan by feel (after tight comes loose icon_twisted.gif).

Best regards, WarLord.
