Hi everyone,
After spending some time in my Golf 3 Variant over the weekend, and having replaced the alternator's clutch, I noticed a cable with a connector lying loose in the engine compartment. It's strange. The cable is black (or brown) and hangs near the 0.9 bar oil pressure sensor. I initially thought it might be the cable from the oil pressure sensor, but it's only running in the same cable duct. I suspect it's a ground cable that should be connected to the body somewhere. But where? I haven't seen anything nearby where I could have plugged it in.
I hope you can help me...
Greetings.
Reuselkopp.

'Mass cables usually have a ring terminal for screwing on, rather than a plug. My AJM also has this type of cable lug that is not connected, and the color of the cable is brown.'

'Is there also a connector near the oil filter in your car? The cable in mine is for an oil temperature sensor (1H0 919 563) that can be screwed into the filter housing (instead of the blind plug that's currently there). As far as I know, this cable is connected to a pin on the connector at the back of the instrument cluster (T28/17), which, in instrument clusters with MFA, displays the oil temperature.'

Sure.
I also have that cable above the oil filter housing, and I believe it's the wiring for an optional oil temperature sensor (if you have a Multifunktionsanzeige - MFA).

"They build things at VW. Just like me, I bought a car without heated seats, and after a few weeks of a cold rear end (still no auxiliary heater), I bought everything needed for the heated seat installation. You're often surprised when you find the cables under the seats that the heated seat elements you bought also have... so I installed the cables and switches, and it worked perfectly."

In my Polo, only the counted wires lead to the side airbags; it seems that not a single piece of unused cable was installed from the factory.
To retrofit the standard instrument dimmer, I had to run a separate wire from the parking light circuit specifically for the instrument lighting to avoid splicing into the existing wiring harness. Gruß Ulf

Well, it's probably difficult for those of us on the outside to fully understand the modular design principle. In my case, it was different from a comparable model.
That's why they didn't include the GSH for me...that's how things balance out again .

The cars are produced in batches. So, cars with build number XXX-YYY have this and that equipment. Then, if a customer comes with special requests, a vehicle is modified on the assembly line during the ongoing production process.
For example, even if a car already has heated seats installed, the process isn't always completed. Instead of removing the seats and installing new ones, the work is often left unfinished. It would be more expensive to remove the existing seats, install new ones, and change the production sequence. Furthermore, the vehicle is already at the wrong station on the assembly line.
For example, some cars have the wiring harness for the speakers in the rear doors, while others do not. Instead, they may have the wiring harness for the winter package and/or other features.
"So, my '96 B5 has the wiring harness for the mirror heating, but not the wiring that extends to the rear window defroster switch."
"In our Opel Astra-F, the complete wiring harness for the air conditioning system, onboard computer, and fog lights is already installed. The fog lights even have a switch."
