Hi,

I have my 1Z here (not my home port icon_smile.gif), with a 50% Poel setting, and the temperature is just over 5 degrees.
Therefore, the part does not glow.

Do I remember correctly that I can make it glow by disconnecting the temperature sensor connector?

I can delete any erroneous entries later, and I will drive the actual trip tomorrow morning (230 km) with the sensor reattached.

It should only preheat when starting.

Thank you.

hi.

To check a preheating system on a warm (VAG) engine, I usually disconnect the temperature sensor.
I don't know what "replacement value" the engine control unit (ECU) uses as a temperature, but it's not "fully" preheated; however, it is preheated.

Sure, you're welcome.

Then I'll unplug it tomorrow, because I don't want to unnecessarily stress my battery with too many attempts.

I will look up the replacement value at a later time and provide it to you.

Greetings.
Martin.

Okay, unplugging it is a quick solution. I seem to remember something about -40°C.
To avoid getting dirty hands, you could still access them remotely via a diagnostic interface. However, that's usually not any faster.

Hi.

Another idea:

Will the MSTG complain if I manually switch the glow output?
I'm thinking about a button in the cockpit that I could press manually for about 20 seconds (or with a timer) to simply activate the heating relay.

Why does the pre-relay actually have so many connections?

Es scheint 2 SteuerEingange zu haben ? Why?

The MSTG complains if I manually switch the glow output.
No, it doesn't. At least not if the connection hasn't been open for very long.

I solved it with a toggle switch. This allows me to connect a 10k resistor in series with the temperature sensor (5k ohms also work, or you can use a potentiometer and check it with VAG-COM). This is a great way to manually pre-glow without creating any error entries. Analogously, the amount of fuel injected is also increased, corresponding to the engine temperature, which can be a bit unpleasant during startup icon_confused.gif.

PS: However, it has the great side effect that the front axle (friendly to police) is moved much further forward icon_biggrin.gif.

Warning,

I didn't mean to change the temperature sensor anymore, but rather to directly activate the relay for the spark plugs.

Then there will be no other starting amounts and no early bird specials.

But I'm messing around with an OUTPUT of the control unit.

Manually switching the relay felt too risky to me personally. It's easy to forget to turn it off. Unless you use a timer, but then, in my opinion, distorting the temperature signal is the lesser of two evils icon_wink.gif.

Therefore, a button!

I will not forget to let it go icon_smile.gif.

Hello,

How is the relay wired? Does the relay have a constant positive connection, and the control unit switches the ground, or is the relay permanently connected to ground, and the control unit switches the positive connection?
When you activate the "Plus" terminal, connect a diode, such as a 1N4007, in the wiring between the control unit and the relay. This will prevent the voltage you are applying from flowing back to the control unit.
When mass is connected, nothing will happen. You can then simply connect a button to ground.
Gruss Oliver.

That is true in principle, but depending on the software, a sporadic wiring fault will be reported at the glow plug relay:
As long as the glow output is not active, the MSG expects to see a Ubatt signal there. However, when the button is pressed, there is 0V at the output -> error entry.

As I said, it can happen, but it doesn't necessarily have to, especially if the data is outdated.
To address issues with new software, in addition to the button, install a diode and a pull-up resistor (approximately 1-2 kOhms should suffice) between the load output of the 109 and the heating output of the MSG.
