Hello everyone,

I hope you can help me with the following problem:

FORD MONDEO TDCI 130 (Year: 11/2001, Mileage: 47,000 km)

The following symptoms are present:

During the 1st attempt to start:
Headlight turns off, attempt to start -> starter motor whirs, but the car doesn't start.

During the 2nd star trial:
The headlight goes out, but then blinks at a second interval --> The starter motor cranks, but the car doesn't start.

On the 3rd attempt to start:
Starts up as if nothing happened.

It doesn't matter if it's warm or cold. A software update was then performed at the Ford dealership (the PCM and ICU were reprogrammed). During this process, two error codes were read from the WDS: P1664 and P2288 (I don't think these are standard OBDII codes, because after the 1664 code, it would indicate a Mondeo with 10 cylinders icon_rolleyes.gif).

The problem persists! Otherwise, the engine is running well, with no loss of performance, hesitation, or misfires.

Do you have any ideas?

I look forward to any feedback!

Greetings.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Dirk'

I'm experiencing the same problem. There were no error codes stored, and a software update didn't help. The issue occurs very sporadically, regardless of external conditions.

'Recently, I've been experiencing an issue where the starter motor occasionally doesn't engage. This only happens when starting the engine from a warm state. The immobilizer is deactivated, and the start switch is working correctly (the consumer loads are being switched off). After about 30 minutes, the starter motor starts working again. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?'

My Ford Mondeo TDCI from 2002 is doing the same thing.
The car has been in the workshop for almost three weeks.
Now, the PCM needs to be replaced.

What did you get out of it?

My starter problem has been resolved; it turned out to be a mechanical issue. I had been experiencing a long period without the starting problem (at least 3 months), but it reappeared again the day before yesterday. The solution is probably just getting a 'proper' car.
