Hello,
Does the 115PS PD engine have a kind of "start delay" to protect the engine?
Here's the translation:
Problem: I recently started driving a Passat Variant BJ05/99 (chiptuning from *** to 140PS through ECU replacement), and it always takes several turns of the starter to start (both when warm and cold). Someone told me that there is a protection mechanism in place to ensure that enough oil pressure is built up before the engine starts.
Regarding the Golf 4 TDI, I am completely unfamiliar with this "problem." It starts (essentially with the first turn of the starter)
Best regards, Matze |

Hello Matze,
yes, it is possible to release the starting amount only from a minimum engine speed.
Advantage: you have already said.
Disadvantage: Weak starters/batteries can cause unnecessary starting problems in warm engines.

I can only assume that we're talking about a 96/130 *** Passat that we have in our circle of acquaintances. However, it starts up perfectly fine. Starting problems with PD cars can be caused by, among other things, misadjusted valve timing or faulty fuel pump/nozzle elements. In the cold state, it usually comes with a strong plume of smoke.
Or, therefore, what Rainer says |

My AFN (engine) starts immediately when it's cold, even on the first turn of the key. However, when it's warm, the engine needs to run for 1-2 times before it starts. After that, it runs smoothly without any hesitation or stalling. |

That's probably what was intended in the dataset as well.
As my predecessors have already said: There should be no shaking or sputtering.

no, it only smokes when under heavy load (when the turbo is spinning), after a few hours of standing. This is because the hoses for the crankshaft oil gallery are so poorly positioned that the oil mist inside doesn't return to the oil pan after the engine is turned off, but instead goes into the intake tract. I'll have to get back to it eventually, but I'm not sure how to improve it yet.
but without load, simply start (i.e., without the turbo engaging) or warm start, absolutely no problem. |

Hello,
The car is not emitting any smoke...
What I find strange is that the engine always takes the same amount of time to start (approximately 5-10 seconds), regardless of whether it's ice-cold or just turned off after a long highway drive and then immediately started again...
How can PD elements be checked?
Best regards, Matze |

Hm, that's really unusual... it could potentially be due to the "different" tuning from the Allgäu region, because they add a (unnecessary for the customer) copy protection processor.
If it takes a little longer to boot, that could explain the issue.
Why don't you try waiting for 10 seconds after "starting" instead? Gruß Ulf

Hello,
***, unfortunately, also seems to be unaware of a "start delay"
Turning the ignition on and waiting before starting doesn't improve anything... I'll have to keep looking for the problem. Thank you for the previous responses!

'Speculation' - This makes me think of the camshaft position sensor G40 as a possible cause. 'If the motor is malfunctioning, it will also take quite a while for it to start.' 'Speculation'
This part is located behind the lever arm, and the connection is somewhere in the area of the diesel filter. I have made this mistake several times, sometimes with an error log entry, and sometimes without.

Good approach!
Unless the problem exists exactly since the tuning, but the previous posts don't really provide any useful information... Gruß Ulf

then I'll take a closer look and check the connection...thanks for now! I'll let you know if that was the problem.
