Hello everyone,
I'm hoping for your help. I have a nearly dead Audi A6 2.5 TDI with the AEL engine. I think it's barely producing any power anymore.
I have logged the MW blocks 003, 008, and 011. I would really appreciate it if someone could provide me with a more detailed explanation of these logs.
and maybe even offers some advice.
I can see that the boost pressure is significantly below the target value, but I don't understand the mass airflow sensor readings.
The injection values are not quite right, or not at all.
I've read a lot in the forum about power loss issues. I've already checked the hoses on the loader.
Overall, it appears to be in good condition and I couldn't find any cracks or similar defects.
I completely miss the sound of the turbocharger whistling.
I'll try to replace the catalytic converter with a pipe this week or over the weekend, as the problem seems to be related to it anyway.
very often lies there.
I would appreciate any feedback.
Greetings Ather . __________________________________________

It would be helpful if you could also show us the logs. Please format them into a diagram and upload it to the designated area. Then we can assist you more effectively. A4 Limu 07/96 AHU@110PS 192tkm 08/05-05/08

SORRY....
I've noticed that too.
Now I don't know where I could upload it.
Greetings, Ather .
I think I uploaded it.
Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate into English. __________________________________________

I think the problem is the boost pressure; you practically have none. Consequently, the air mass is too low, which triggers the soot limit.
Unfortunately, your log doesn't specify what the target values ("Soll") are and what the actual measured values ("Ist") are. Also, the information about injection amounts is missing (including details like driver request, "Dremo" value, and soot levels).
I suspect it's related to Lader or his regulations. Aktuell:

Hi,
This is the first loader! Why? It only has 416 tons.
How often do the chargers need to be replaced, or how long do they typically last?
Do the column headings differ, perhaps based on the VAG version or vehicle type?
I haven't found any descriptions for group 3 yet, other than the ones in the example file from MWB.
MWB: 3
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|--------------------------------Air Mass (AGR)-----------------------------------------------------|
+----------------+-------------------------+---------------------------+------------------------------+
|-------1---------|----------2--------------|-----------3----------------|-----------4------------------|
|---|---|---|---|
+----------------+-------------------------+---------------------------+------------------------------+
|--Drehzahl---|--"Sollwert mg / Hub"--|--"Istwertmg / Hub"--|--"Tastverh. "AGR valve"
+-----------------+--------------------------+----------------------------+---------------------------+
I hope this is also suitable for my vehicle; I didn't want to enter any uncertain information.
update below: https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?p=90422#90422
Does anyone think it could be related to the CAT (system)?
I don't need to deal with that; I plan to have it removed as soon as my schedule allows. Does anyone know if the car will still pass the technical inspection (AU) after the catalytic converter is replaced?
Thank you in advance for your updates.
Greetings, Ather. __________________________________________

So, 416,000 km and still the original turbo. I think we've found the problem ^^
Generally speaking, turbos typically fail around 200,000 kilometers (approximately 124,000 miles), depending on driving style.
Please check the condition of the turbine on the air intake side. Specifically, look for signs of abrasion and any excessive clearance.
What is the oil consumption like? A4 Limu 07/96 AHU@110PS 192tkm 08/05-05/08

The oil consumption is 0; I haven't measured it because you can't really see much on the dipstick.
Or rather, I can't say that the car needs 1-2 liters of oil, or even 0.5 liters.
Change the oil regularly, twice a year, approximately every 20,000-25,000 kilometers (or miles).
I only drive on track 120-130 km/h, a nice constant speed. You know the prices. About 220 km per day.
You just have to go to work/commute. __________________________________________

With these driving conditions, I wouldn't rule out the catalytic converter being the issue. If you simply remove the catalytic converter and drive without it, you'll know whether or not it made a difference. Aktuell:

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"Hi,"
"Yes, I want to let the cat out, but I don't want to do that to my neighbor."
Therefore, I'm putting a pipe in instead of the catalytic converter. Does anyone know if I can pass the emissions test with this setup?
If so, I could simply cut the metal without needing to weld anything.
Best regards, Ather. __________________________________________

Without an exhaust system, TDIs are quieter than you might think... perfectly fine for a short test.

Okay, it probably fits. So, the MWB 11 seems to be running the turbocharger control at full throttle (for maximum pressure build-up, with a PWM of 5%), but even at high RPMs, it's only achieving a boost pressure of around 70 mbar at best.
I don't know if you have a wastegate turbocharger... but even with a variable geometry turbo (VTG), it should still produce significantly more boost at 4000 rpm, despite the reduced fuel injection amount.
Therefore, considering this log, I would classify the VTG loader as "seriously dead" or "bring on the replacement loader" . Gruß Ulf

Hello everyone,
Now I'm really surprised...
I thought the AEL was only available with Westgate chargers, or am I wrong?
Does that mean I have to check which one was installed?
How about the ASU (Abgasuntersuchung - exhaust emission test)? Does the diesel engine pass without a catalytic converter?
Best regards, Ather. __________________________________________

I mean (!), it's also possible without a catalytic converter, but why would you want to subject your cat to that if you don't even know if it's broken? If you're not driving through a residential area in the middle of the night, you probably won't have any problems. Aktuell:

Can anyone tell me if the AEL turbocharger is available with different types of chargers, such as wastegates or variable geometry turbines (VTG)?
I'll probably have to take a gentle approach with the catheter; I'll remove it first, and then, if the problem is definitely due to the catheter, it will be surgically removed.
Greetings. __________________________________________
