Hello.
I want to install a pump-injector engine in my Audi 80 B4 TDI with a 1Z engine. Does anyone have experience with this? What problems might I encounter? What solutions are available? What are the associated costs?
Or is it easier/better/cheaper to upgrade my 1Z engine (which is already chipped)? (Could I use parts like pistons, connecting rods, or a turbo from an AFN or PD engine?) Will a 6-speed transmission fit my engine without any problems?
I am grateful for any and all tips, no matter how small.
Best regards,

I would probably be interested in that too...
So, dear mechanics, let's get to work :-)).

Take a look at this, and think about it very carefully.

Best regards from someone who didn't do it: H-P.
PS: It might not be a PD, but it's an AFN!
But that doesn't mean it's easier.

Hello.
I was already familiar with the website, and it hasn't managed to deter me yet!
Okay... I'm still grateful for any tips you can offer.
Sincerely,

...we installed the AFN engine in the Corrado.
And I can only advise you not to do it.
'Installing a PD (presumably a specific engine component) is definitely possible. However, the problems you'll encounter there are likely different from the 'minor issues' that arise when installing an AFN engine into a B4 model.' Not much else will fit in there. A 6-speed transmission can't be installed without a significant amount of effort and expense.
Okay, so if then... afn. You can easily get that engine to 160 horsepower without major investments, and with that, the pd version shouldn't be significantly more powerful.
You can find information about what to expect when applying for an AFN (Ausbildung für Pflegekräfte - Nursing Education) at the link above.
Keep the 90s engine, give it a decent chip, and squeeze every last bit of power out of it. If it then becomes too powerful... sell it on AT or eBay. You can find a 1Z engine for under 800 euros there. A Nissan GT-R was sold on eBay for €2012 four weeks ago.

What modifications did you make to get the AFN engine to produce 160 horsepower?
Will the transmission handle it?

Hi, I wrote '...you can get that to 160 horsepower without major investments' - I didn't mean that I already have that power output.
My engine had already covered 215,000 kilometers without a chip. I think it was running with a fairly conservative factory setting (like most TDI engines). Now, I've had a proper chip installed, and the difference is significant. Even though, according to... The FH test shouldn't be too difficult.
My colleague has an A3 with a 130 HP engine that has been tuned with a PD chip to 178 HP and 415 Nm of torque (dyno-tested!). When he's driving with a full tank and my tank is empty, I end up behind him. We both got in the car, and he weighs 130 kg more than I do. + the difference in fuel tank capacity...
I bought a turbocharger from a 130 HP PD engine last week. I'll install it eventually (and help with the installation). There should be more to come as well.
I have the 90 horsepower transmission from a G4 installed, because it's a bit longer. NO, it doesn't really hold up well. It makes loud noises, and now it whines in second gear when accelerating. I bought an original 110 horsepower transmission on eBay yesterday. I'm going to put that away for as long as mine lasts.
Okay, I'll eventually take the front bumper off and put it on a test stand. Then I'll know how much he really has.
Regards,
arne

Hi!
What do you understand by a 'reasonable' chip?
Installing this device in my car shouldn't be too much of a problem, right? 'Apparently, even the original wiring harness should fit! Or is it not possible to install the G3 engine in a longitudinal orientation?'
Why doesn't the pump-injector system fit? I thought the underlying structure of the TDIs was always the same?!? What do I need to do to make it fit?

- No eBay junk for 100 euros! Also, places that offer warranties on engines, and where the chip isn't 'for all 81kw TDI' models, but specifically for the ECU number of your car.
- You can see what kind of problem this is by looking at the link above. The wiring harness doesn't fit easily, because the 1Z still uses a wastegate, while the AFN uses a VTG.
- Flywheel, drive shafts. I think those are the two biggest problems with the 6. Okay.

'Doesn't the VTG turbo only build up pressure in the lower RPM range? And that has nothing to do with the engine control unit, right?'
What are the differences between AFN and 1Z?
What can I do to the engine so that it can handle the increased power and torque?
'How large should the LLK be? Is the one from the S2 system okay?'

Hello.
Does anyone know if the AFN engine from a Golf Mk3 will fit in my Audi 80 B4 TDI?
(Problems related to installing components sideways instead of lengthwise, etc.?)
What problems am I facing? Which fixed-gear transmission?
'Does that work?'
