Question about diagnostic interface

'I gave a friend in Russia my diagnostic cable when I visited there. Now he says he can't access everything in newer VAG cars (like the Touareg, etc.). I think it can't read the CAN bus. He wants me to bring him a suitable interface. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about them. With a regular interface from eBay, I can read everything in my '99 Bora.' Also CAN.

Can someone give me a hand? What exactly should I buy, and what should I pay attention to? Does it still work with VAG COM? Should be for COM connection.

I think that anyone who tinkers with cars like that can also afford a genuine and decent interface. And if they can't, then just give them one. Consider it as 'East Germany Reconstruction Aid' . With a donation receipt, it can even be tax-deductible .
