Hi.

After my dog, whose name is BMR, started barking incessantly yesterday, about 200 meters away from my colleague's barbecue, and continued this morning, "machine-gunning" like a machine gun, I took him for a long walk today after work.

Do you ever experience this as well, when he signals that he's bored with a very forceful initial spray and a standing consumption of 1.2 liters per hour?

"Regarding 'for the driver and unnoticed,' you'd have to be both blind AND deaf to not notice it!"

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

Hi Martin,

Ideally, it shouldn't be noticeable. My battery charger is configured in a way that the driver shouldn't notice anything, but a clicking sound from the interior control unit always gives me signals. When the guy switches the rear window heater and all sorts of other things on and off wildly during load changes, it becomes apparent. Our engineers tried their best to make sure nothing is noticeable, but practically speaking, *it's there*.

I can only say that I also let mine do its extra 10 km to ensure the battery pack experiences reasonable temperatures when parked (you would need a water-cooled charger like you have in a gasoline car).

Regarding 'for the driver and unnoticed,' you have to be both blind AND deaf to think that!

Sure, here's the translation:

'Hey,' or 'Hi,' or 'Hello.'

When I witnessed the first regeneration attempt on a CR injector with 5 injections, I thought the engine was broken or about to fall apart into its individual components.

Anyone who appreciates the smooth running of mechanically driven engines and always likes to listen to the sound of the engine will really appreciate the experience during regeneration.
How glad I am that my old diesel car doesn't require this procedure.

Let's see how long I can drive without a catalytic converter.

Best regards, Jochen.

That's right. It's the same with Audi and BMW. At first, I was embarrassed to drive my old van, like a Ford Transit from the 90s, through the 30 km/h zone.

After a software update, the DPF regenerates (cleans itself) significantly less frequently and with slightly less noise. However, you can still notice it happening. Additionally, I can now reliably trigger the regeneration process by giving the accelerator pedal just a tiny bit of pressure while in drive.

It seems like the software is now injecting fuel intermittently to keep the DPF at a certain temperature, which wasn't happening before the update.

Your Passat should already have the SW software version. Unfortunately, the software versions from BMN, BMR, and VW/Audi are not directly comparable. Mine was 0061 and is now 0424.

By the way, my solution to the noise problem, which I implemented over Easter, was to add extra soundproofing to the hood. I removed the original soundproofing material, applied three to four layers of aluminum butyl rubber to the unreinforced metal surfaces, and then put the original soundproofing material back on top.

Result: The "bright" sound components are gone. It now sounds nicely muffled again, as it should for a diesel engine icon_wink.gif.

Regards,
Pete.

My father drove his brand new 3c BMR (picked up in Emden on April 11th) to the workshop after the first noticeable knocking sound, accompanied by a burning smell, as he was concerned! icon_biggrin.gif After much deliberation, the master mechanic realized that the particulate filter had been cleaning itself!

Is Dad an employee of Volkswagen?
Why did he get that one from Emden? I had mine in WOB.

"Mine never smelled burnt, it just makes a noticeable clacking sound. And when you turn off the engine after regeneration, you can clearly hear the DPF crackling (due to thermal stress during cooling)."

There it is (finally, also in this forum).
To keep the environmental protection technology "happy," unnecessary kilometers are driven, which in turn creates additional environmental burdens.

This systemic madness shows me that the "outdated coal burners" called ALH and ASZ were a more sensible choice for my house (and still would be).

@MartinViewing profile: Martin: The "madness" is not meant personally icon_wink.gif - and the Finance Minister thanks you / all DPF car owners: even if you refuel abroad, you still contribute to the proportional wear and tear, which accordingly leads to earlier or more frequent payments of the "fairytale tax" for wear parts into the black hole aka state treasury.

Hi Ulf,

I know that's crazy. By the way, I have to admit that my driving pattern is a bit insane: During the week, I drive around "Kaiserslautern," which is a big city. Occasionally, on weekends, I go out onto the highway. This allows the filter to gradually fill up during the week.

I should have kept track of how often it regenerates, because if it happens on the highway, I think it goes unnoticed. You only notice it in the city: there's a slight jerk, and it makes a clunking noise. Also, when walking the dog, I initially felt like the transmission sometimes "held the gas," which wasn't very pleasant for me on longer trips icon_eek.gif.

@dieselmartin
To save around €430 in transportation costs to Germany (WOB), although the car probably would have cost that much more there anyway!!!
